[00:00:00] I have like a piece of lip gloss or something on my eye.

[00:00:03] I'm so sorry.

[00:00:04] It's like on my glasses.

[00:00:06] I really have to like pause because this is dry.

[00:00:08] Like I keep looking up like, what is this?

[00:00:10] She's like a weird stripe across the glasses.

[00:00:15] What is going on?

[00:00:20] Welcome to The Incoherent Fangirl, where physically we are here

[00:00:24] mentally, maybe not so much.

[00:00:27] Not so much.

[00:00:28] It's going to be extra incoherent.

[00:00:30] Yes, I am Karen from Katmere Academy.

[00:00:33] I'm Mandy from Calder Academy.

[00:00:37] Welcome to apparently a very crave of the Incoherent Fangirl.

[00:00:44] I've got a Hudson shirt on.

[00:00:46] Oh, in our timeline, it is April 18th.

[00:00:53] And in y'all's timeline, it is April 26th.

[00:00:56] I meanest things looked at the calendar the other day

[00:01:01] and realized that it was like two weeks until Yal West.

[00:01:03] And that was very shocking.

[00:01:05] And I am not prepared because I don't have a hotel or anything yet.

[00:01:08] I have no plans.

[00:01:10] It's going to go real well for me.

[00:01:11] It's going to go real well.

[00:01:13] I'm going to pull in Adam Silvira and say that it is two months

[00:01:16] and three days until my birthday.

[00:01:19] Excellent.

[00:01:21] When we're recording, not when you're listening.

[00:01:22] It's less than two months to my birthday when you're listening to this.

[00:01:26] All right, Mandy, this week in fangirling.

[00:01:33] Let me know what you did.

[00:01:34] I didn't do a whole lot.

[00:01:36] I've been reading through it was not like last week where I read like a thousand things.

[00:01:41] So I've started Sweet Nightmare.

[00:01:44] I'm still working on.

[00:01:45] I started last week, Sweet Nightmare by Tracy Wolfe.

[00:01:48] So we're at Calder Academy, which is like a paranormal detention center.

[00:01:53] I guess it's like a paranormal YDC for youths.

[00:01:56] And so there's something weird going on.

[00:01:58] We're following Clementine.

[00:02:00] Her mother is like the headmistress boss, but her family,

[00:02:04] the Calder family like runs this island school.

[00:02:07] It's an island off the coast of Texas in the Gulf, obviously.

[00:02:11] And it's warded and protected from like most hurricanes and natural disasters.

[00:02:17] Their magic is enough to protect them from anything like that.

[00:02:22] And all of the students magic is tamped down like they can't access their magic.

[00:02:27] Well, there is this massive storm that's rolling in that is apparently

[00:02:32] like going to be so huge and is coming off so suddenly that for the first time

[00:02:38] that Clementine has ever heard of, her mother is talking about evacuating.

[00:02:44] And like normally her mother is like everyone has to be contained.

[00:02:48] Everything has to be rigid.

[00:02:49] And so she's like, what is happening?

[00:02:52] Like what is going on here?

[00:02:53] Why? Why? So yeah.

[00:02:57] And then she's got this is very early.

[00:02:59] Like I don't really know what's happened yet, but she has this former bestie,

[00:03:03] Jude, who is super tall and super hot and super tattooed.

[00:03:09] And one day he just like cut contact and like refused to acknowledge that she existed

[00:03:15] and she doesn't know why.

[00:03:17] And they are in English, British Lit class and the teacher, a new teacher

[00:03:25] puts them together on a group assignment and they have not spoken in years.

[00:03:29] Because like he just ghosted her and she was really hurt.

[00:03:32] And then now she's pissed, obviously.

[00:03:34] Yeah.

[00:03:35] So we're trying to figure out what Jude's problem is too.

[00:03:39] So I'm liking it so far.

[00:03:41] I haven't like every night I sit down to read and then something else comes

[00:03:45] up and I don't look at there.

[00:03:48] I finished How to End a Love Story by Mando auto corrected it to Yulia.

[00:03:55] Yulin Kuang.

[00:03:56] So remember I mentioned last week there are some trigger

[00:03:59] warnings for this book.

[00:04:01] So it's sibling death, a presumed suicide, death via car and child.

[00:04:07] It's a teenager death.

[00:04:08] I really liked this book, but I still cannot relate to the main character.

[00:04:16] Like I cannot.

[00:04:18] The premise I talked about last week was enemies to lovers.

[00:04:22] But half of the enemies is the person who the female main character's

[00:04:27] teenage sister when they are teenagers steps out in front of a car to commit

[00:04:31] suicide and the person in the other side of the enemies to lovers was the

[00:04:36] driver of that car.

[00:04:38] And I've talked about like, if you take my siblings from me, I hate you for life.

[00:04:42] Like I, like I cannot fathom a world where I would want to be

[00:04:47] romantically involved with it's not his fault.

[00:04:50] He's not her sister's killer, but it's still.

[00:04:54] But Yulin is so good and so incredibly talented at like writing that it's,

[00:05:02] it was very, it was very natural too.

[00:05:04] And I felt robbed of time with the main characters in a way.

[00:05:08] Like I, I wanted more with them.

[00:05:11] I love that.

[00:05:13] Yeah.

[00:05:14] Grant, who is the male lead is I'm a sucker for a monologue.

[00:05:18] Okay.

[00:05:18] I love him.

[00:05:19] He gives a very Aaron Warner ask monologue.

[00:05:21] Okay.

[00:05:22] There's boy like he got me, but he didn't kill my sister.

[00:05:28] So, right?

[00:05:31] He didn't kill anybody.

[00:05:32] It's not his fault.

[00:05:33] He didn't kill her.

[00:05:34] Yeah.

[00:05:35] Was used.

[00:05:36] He was used.

[00:05:37] Unfortunately, the victim of yeah, the suicide in a different way.

[00:05:42] So yeah, it was, it was good.

[00:05:43] I recommend it.

[00:05:44] Like I gave it a five out of five.

[00:05:46] If those triggers don't bother you, then I think you should read it.

[00:05:49] It's very good.

[00:05:50] Josh was traveling this past week.

[00:05:52] So the twins and I had crappitizers and PowerPoint night where I just, we

[00:05:58] call crappitizer night where I just make like eats rolls and buffalo chicken dip

[00:06:04] and meatballs and I'll get them sushi and like we just have crappitizers.

[00:06:09] My mom's called them crappitizers my whole life or hordy horse instead of

[00:06:12] hors d'oeuvres and have crappitizers or hordy horse.

[00:06:15] And then we made and presented PowerPoints to each other.

[00:06:20] So one of them's was what crime would you commit?

[00:06:24] Like each of the three of us, how likely all of you would be to use

[00:06:27] psychedelic drugs.

[00:06:30] And then mine was a PowerPoint on all the PowerPoints I could have made

[00:06:33] for PowerPoint night.

[00:06:36] I love it.

[00:06:37] Funnily enough, one of them, one of my psych, the reason I would use

[00:06:41] psychedelic drugs was, was to live in a fantasy world with Tom Hiddleston

[00:06:46] and Adam Silver, not so very Adam was there.

[00:06:49] I thought she was going to say Adam Silver because she loves him, but no.

[00:06:52] Tom Hiddleston or Adam was there.

[00:06:54] Well, Adam was Zara.

[00:06:55] Nice.

[00:06:56] That tracks tracks.

[00:06:58] So I'm just in a fantasy world with Josh was there.

[00:07:01] Josh and Tom Hiddleston and Adam was there.

[00:07:04] So it's fair.

[00:07:04] It's fair.

[00:07:06] It doesn't sound like the worst life.

[00:07:08] And then the next day we had girls day in Atlanta.

[00:07:12] We thank God they somehow managed to have like things that get them excited,

[00:07:17] like the same thing is getting me excited.

[00:07:20] We went to IKEA.

[00:07:21] Yeah.

[00:07:22] We walked around.

[00:07:23] We ate in the IKEA cafeteria.

[00:07:25] We walked around.

[00:07:26] We looked at all of the little apartment setups and all of the

[00:07:29] square footage and we owed an odd.

[00:07:32] Then we went over to Trader Joe's and we're met with a tragedy.

[00:07:37] The reason we go like, we love Trader Joe's.

[00:07:39] Okay, we got a Trader Joe's for anything, but we went to Trader Joe's

[00:07:42] specifically because the s'mores bites, the addictive s'mores bites, which is

[00:07:47] a graham cracker and a marshmallow coated in chocolate.

[00:07:51] Apparently are seasonal.

[00:07:53] Have I ever heard this before now?

[00:07:55] No.

[00:07:56] Have I ever had an issue getting them before now?

[00:07:58] No.

[00:07:59] So we like walk through the store and we're like, oh, this is getting

[00:08:02] very scary.

[00:08:03] And so we walk slowly down all the aisles and we're like, something is a

[00:08:06] mess.

[00:08:07] Something is wrong here.

[00:08:10] And so I finally go and ask an employee and she's like, I think those

[00:08:13] are seasonal or discontinued.

[00:08:15] Let me go check and she comes back and she's like, yeah, they'll be

[00:08:18] back in like a month and a half.

[00:08:21] Oh dear.

[00:08:22] Maybe we've crushed ourselves.

[00:08:25] How does it feel?

[00:08:27] Going home with my everything bagel.

[00:08:30] It's the most sparing as risotto.

[00:08:33] We will somehow get through this.

[00:08:35] I don't know how, but we will be strong.

[00:08:39] We're going to be strong.

[00:08:40] And then we went, I wanted to surprise them with somewhere we've never

[00:08:44] been before.

[00:08:45] So we went to sugar factory.

[00:08:47] We had a good time.

[00:08:48] It's fun.

[00:08:49] The desserts were cool.

[00:08:50] So they got like one of them got like a, they have it alcoholic and

[00:08:53] non-alcoholic, but it's like a big cauldron looking glass drink.

[00:08:58] And they pour in the liquid and then it smokes for however long you're

[00:09:03] drinking it hers was, hers tasted like a watermelon jolly rancher.

[00:09:06] It was very, very good.

[00:09:07] And the other one got like a chocolate coffee drink.

[00:09:10] And then they both got milk.

[00:09:11] We all got milkshakes.

[00:09:12] Not worth the price.

[00:09:14] Not worth.

[00:09:15] Maybe in other areas, it might be worth the price.

[00:09:18] The Atlanta one is nasty.

[00:09:21] It's real gross.

[00:09:22] There was like a glove on the ground next to the host stands.

[00:09:26] And like it was just rundown, dingy, the bathroom sink.

[00:09:30] Like the faucet is here.

[00:09:32] The sink starts here.

[00:09:35] So I'll send you a video.

[00:09:37] Like the water is going all over the counter.

[00:09:39] What?

[00:09:40] Like, I was like, this is like why, why keep installing?

[00:09:46] This is when you stop and say, guys, this doesn't fit.

[00:09:49] We got to go to Home Depot.

[00:09:50] We got to go to Lowe's.

[00:09:51] That is bonkers.

[00:09:54] Yeah.

[00:09:54] So it was, it was a cool experience.

[00:09:56] I'm glad we did it.

[00:09:58] We probably wouldn't go back for anything other than like, let's

[00:10:01] sit down and get the milkshakes.

[00:10:03] Yeah.

[00:10:03] That's fair.

[00:10:04] It was fun.

[00:10:05] We had a good time.

[00:10:05] And then I've just been working on a sweet nightmare.

[00:10:08] Nice.

[00:10:08] All week.

[00:10:09] Really haven't done a lot.

[00:10:10] That's kind of a lot going on.

[00:10:11] So what did you do this week?

[00:10:14] So last week, I actually forgot a book that I had.

[00:10:18] So I'm going to talk about it now.

[00:10:20] It's called Everyone Who Can Forgive Me is Dead by Jenny Hollander.

[00:10:24] It follows.

[00:10:25] Listen, I read this a little while back, so I don't remember names, but

[00:10:29] which is not new for me.

[00:10:31] The main character had something tragic happened in her past during her college

[00:10:38] years and it was dubbed Arlet Christmas and it made the rounds on the media.

[00:10:43] There it was basically like, it's not really explained at the beginning of

[00:10:48] the story.

[00:10:48] So you kind of have to use context clues.

[00:10:51] They don't really get into it until like closer to the end.

[00:10:54] And so basically what happens is there, it sounds like there is a student who

[00:11:01] kind of lost it and there was murder and it was a lot and it was bad

[00:11:07] news bears and it was all over the media and all of that.

[00:11:09] And now, however many years later, she's an adult.

[00:11:13] She has a really good job and she gets an email from, she was one

[00:11:18] of the survivors and she gets an email from another survivor of that night

[00:11:24] who is like, hey, just so you know, so-and-so is going to be making a

[00:11:30] movie about it.

[00:11:31] And so-and-so was like her best friend's sister, twin sister.

[00:11:36] So she is not, she did not have a good relationship with then and

[00:11:41] definitely does not now because she's like, I do not want this all

[00:11:46] over the news again.

[00:11:47] This doesn't need to be a part of the news cycle.

[00:11:49] And in the back of her mind also, the main character is like, there are

[00:11:54] things about that night that people don't know and if they go

[00:11:59] digging into this, it's going to be revealed and that's not going

[00:12:02] to be good for me.

[00:12:03] It's not going to be good for my family.

[00:12:05] And you don't really, like it's so well written that you don't

[00:12:10] realize until, and I guess this is spoilery, but you don't

[00:12:14] realize until the very end that she's kind of an unreliable narrator.

[00:12:18] Oh, I love.

[00:12:20] Yeah.

[00:12:20] I kind of love that though.

[00:12:22] I look for it an unreliable narrator.

[00:12:24] I do too because you just never know what's going to happen.

[00:12:27] Yeah.

[00:12:27] And so the whole story is she's trying to get this other woman to

[00:12:34] drop the production of this film because she's convinced

[00:12:37] that she did something bad that night and if they do this

[00:12:42] film and they do the digging to make this film that everything's

[00:12:47] going to be revealed and her whole life is going to be trashed.

[00:12:51] Yeah.

[00:12:52] And at the end, oh my God, the ending.

[00:12:55] I was like, did not expect that.

[00:12:58] Did not see that coming because as we find out, unreliable narrator,

[00:13:03] things are not what they seem because you are we're

[00:13:06] strictly in her POV.

[00:13:08] And so she in it's a dual timeline.

[00:13:12] Ask there are like flashbacks.

[00:13:14] And so in the present, she has gaps in her memory from that night

[00:13:18] and she's working with her therapist to like uncover those memories.

[00:13:22] And as she's uncovering them, things are starting to piece together.

[00:13:27] But again, once you get to the end, you're like, oh shit, like everything.

[00:13:31] Yeah.

[00:13:32] Everything that you have learned up until now is put into question

[00:13:36] based on one single moment near the end.

[00:13:39] And it's so good.

[00:13:41] I need you.

[00:13:42] I don't know.

[00:13:42] I think I pronounced it wrong, but I need you to read it.

[00:13:45] Alex McCallities.

[00:13:46] Oh yeah.

[00:13:47] You would love to do the silent patient first and then the fury.

[00:13:51] But oh, yeah.

[00:13:52] Talk about a reliable narrator.

[00:13:53] Definitely on my list.

[00:13:55] Yeah.

[00:13:56] Yeah.

[00:13:56] I love an unreliable narrator.

[00:13:58] It's just it's so good, especially when it's well done.

[00:14:01] Like there are some that could be not that great, but like what I've

[00:14:05] read so far, like this is good.

[00:14:07] So highly recommend it.

[00:14:09] I can't remember if this is her debut or not, but if it is and even if it is,

[00:14:14] I've heard her name before.

[00:14:17] I'm not sure.

[00:14:18] I didn't look into it, but even if it isn't like it's just so well done.

[00:14:23] Like I would definitely read more from her.

[00:14:27] Yeah.

[00:14:27] Because it was just so good, but especially if it was a debut, like

[00:14:32] whole shit for sure.

[00:14:34] Yeah.

[00:14:34] So highly recommend.

[00:14:36] I am in the process of reading the Crave series by Tracy Wolf.

[00:14:40] I have read Crave and Crush, which are the first two books, and I'm

[00:14:46] in the midst of reading Covet, reading Covet, which is book three.

[00:14:50] So I don't know how much I can talk about it, but and I think you

[00:14:54] probably already talked about it.

[00:14:55] And yeah, I talked about it a lot, I'm sure.

[00:14:57] Yeah.

[00:14:58] So Charm is the best.

[00:15:00] Charm is my favorite.

[00:15:02] We'll get there.

[00:15:03] We're going slowly, but surely we will get there.

[00:15:06] But yeah, I do feel about my boy.

[00:15:10] I do love Hudson.

[00:15:11] I do.

[00:15:12] It's funny because I like I was like texting Mandy and I'm like, listen,

[00:15:16] I need you to tell me that so and so is like we love this person

[00:15:20] because I love this person and I don't want this to be like a

[00:15:23] family, a family situation.

[00:15:26] Baby Angel, you're safe with that person.

[00:15:29] Yeah.

[00:15:30] There were like, I think I did it for two characters

[00:15:32] and I was like, please, please tell me this is not like.

[00:15:35] And I wasn't even a big Tamlin fan when I read Aqatar, but like,

[00:15:39] you know, that's what like was the intention was for people to like Tamlin.

[00:15:44] But and so I was like, please don't let this like be like that kind of situation

[00:15:48] because it will be very upset.

[00:15:51] It will be my biggest flex is that I hated Tamlin from the jump

[00:15:54] and I have receipts to prove it.

[00:15:56] I know you do.

[00:15:57] Why is she looking at him?

[00:15:59] Lucian is right there.

[00:16:00] She is right there.

[00:16:03] Literally, he is right fucking there.

[00:16:08] And then as soon as Re steps out for a hello, I've been there you are.

[00:16:11] I've been looking for you.

[00:16:12] Yeah, it's black hair and the most beautiful man I've ever seen.

[00:16:15] I was like, oh God, that's who I'm in love with.

[00:16:18] I don't care if you're bad.

[00:16:19] Right.

[00:16:21] So I am making my way through the Crave series.

[00:16:25] It is good.

[00:16:26] I just I have them on audiobooks.

[00:16:28] So it's like I'm only listening when I'm at work

[00:16:32] because I need to disassociate from work.

[00:16:36] Especially right now, life is insane.

[00:16:39] Yeah.

[00:16:39] So yeah, so it's been slow going, but I'm getting there and I'm really enjoying it.

[00:16:43] I'm so excited.

[00:16:44] And it was funny, I think I texted you while I was listening to Crush

[00:16:49] and I was like, I like my chest literally hurts

[00:16:53] because I am having so much anxiety.

[00:16:55] And then you said something about the last line of the book.

[00:16:57] And when I got there, I love it.

[00:16:59] I mean, it's a great line, but also called that from the beginning.

[00:17:04] Like, I mean, it's not a shock.

[00:17:06] It's not a shock.

[00:17:07] Yes.

[00:17:08] But I mean, if it is a shock for you, like good for you,

[00:17:10] but like it shouldn't have been.

[00:17:13] It should have been.

[00:17:14] Not a surprise, but it's just like finally.

[00:17:18] It's so good.

[00:17:19] It's like that validation where you're like, I know this is where it's going.

[00:17:23] It has to be where it's going.

[00:17:24] I'm educated.

[00:17:26] Yes, exactly.

[00:17:27] So that is what I'm working on right now.

[00:17:29] I read Tender Beasts by Lacelle Sanbury.

[00:17:33] There's a lot of content warnings on this one, but and it's listed in the book.

[00:17:39] And what I loved was that it's listed, like content warnings are listed

[00:17:43] at the beginning of the book in the author's note, but she also writes in

[00:17:46] like I'm the most up to date content warnings will be listed on my website.

[00:17:52] Like if somebody reads it and they're like, hey, this could have used

[00:17:55] to content, did you add this?

[00:17:56] Yeah.

[00:17:56] And so I'm like, I kind of love that because it's better.

[00:17:59] It's better than being like, hey, if you want to check

[00:18:01] content warnings, go to my website.

[00:18:03] Like you actually have some listed and then you're going to add to it updated

[00:18:07] as, you know, things are presented because you do your best,

[00:18:10] but then you can't always catch everything like something

[00:18:13] that would be triggering to me wouldn't be triggering to a million other people.

[00:18:17] And so you're not going to put, well, this person has a really big fear of snakes.

[00:18:21] So right the snake is mentioned.

[00:18:23] Like, right.

[00:18:24] But it's good for people who could say.

[00:18:26] But like if you have this phobia, this will mess you up.

[00:18:29] Yeah, exactly.

[00:18:30] So I really appreciated that.

[00:18:32] And there was one of the content warnings was a child death.

[00:18:36] So I was like, thank God for mentioning this because that is stressful

[00:18:40] for me personally.

[00:18:42] Yeah.

[00:18:43] It was stressful.

[00:18:44] And then there was there was mention of like death of an animal.

[00:18:47] And then she listed like these animals on page and these animals not on page

[00:18:52] but mention and then blah, blah, blah.

[00:18:53] None of them were dogs.

[00:18:55] But but like I love that she like listed out specifically what animals

[00:19:01] that you know, where I yeah, because you remember when I was reading

[00:19:05] I can't remember the name of it.

[00:19:07] It was I Oh God.

[00:19:08] Well, was it called crown of no, no, no, it was crap.

[00:19:12] I know exactly what you're talking about.

[00:19:14] It was a West African fairytale retelling.

[00:19:17] But it was somebody you reached out to somebody and yeah,

[00:19:21] I went on Instagram because it was it said death animal torture and death.

[00:19:25] And it was like, I can't I physically I can't get to it and it be a dog.

[00:19:29] It was a horse.

[00:19:31] It wasn't intentional torture either.

[00:19:33] It was right.

[00:19:34] But yeah, sacrifice gone wrong and the animal was suffering

[00:19:37] and it immediately was rectified.

[00:19:39] But it happened that way.

[00:19:40] Right.

[00:19:41] That had been a dog.

[00:19:42] But yeah, so yeah.

[00:19:44] So I appreciate them saying like as a horse girl, that could be very upsetting.

[00:19:47] Right.

[00:19:48] But you know, like a dog girl, that's not going to be as a

[00:19:50] dog girl, it's not as upsetting, but I would want to know.

[00:19:53] Right. Exactly.

[00:19:54] That I'm safe to read.

[00:19:55] Right. So I'm not jumping for joy of horse death either.

[00:19:59] Like that's like it hits different.

[00:20:01] Like I have four dogs in my house.

[00:20:04] Right.

[00:20:04] I just it just hits different things hit differently.

[00:20:07] Like yeah, you know, for different people.

[00:20:09] So it's not that you are jumping for joy for something else.

[00:20:12] It's just like no, it just doesn't hit you the same way.

[00:20:15] Like yeah, that's just facts.

[00:20:18] Right.

[00:20:19] Yeah.

[00:20:19] So anyways, so this story follows Sunny Bear, who is one of five kids.

[00:20:26] And the story opens the prologue is it follows like the prologue just follows

[00:20:32] her mom and like leads up to basically her mother's death and very early on.

[00:20:37] And it's a big part of the book.

[00:20:39] So it's not a spoiler.

[00:20:40] So now in the present day, they are dealing with her youngest brother

[00:20:48] Dom, who has been what is it charged with murder of I think it's his girlfriend.

[00:20:55] And he is currently out on bail because they're very rich and they have very good

[00:21:00] lawyers and so he is able to be out.

[00:21:03] But while you know, they're prepping for trial and all of that.

[00:21:06] And he goes about his regular life.

[00:21:07] And so in the will after the reading of their mother's will,

[00:21:13] the lawyer takes each of them aside and gives them something specifically for them

[00:21:18] from their mother.

[00:21:20] And what Sunny gets is she's expecting something where her mother is basically

[00:21:27] indicating that she is now to be like the head of the family rather than because

[00:21:32] she's like the fourth child rather than like the oldest child.

[00:21:35] Because for some reason that we find out later,

[00:21:39] the mother, her mother basically told Sunny like you are going to be the one who

[00:21:43] leads the family if anything happens to me.

[00:21:46] You are going to be, you know, you have the best qualities for the later of the

[00:21:50] family, which is kind of a weird thing to say who needs a family, but you know,

[00:21:55] right, whatever.

[00:21:56] And that is something that is discussed later in the book.

[00:21:59] But all Sunny ends up getting is a post-it note that says take care of Dom.

[00:22:03] And that's all it says.

[00:22:05] And that's all the information she has.

[00:22:07] And so Sunny takes it to me and like why I need to keep an eye out for him.

[00:22:11] I have to watch him. I have to make sure he's going to be OK.

[00:22:13] We have to make sure that he's not, you know, actually like going to jail for

[00:22:18] murder or anything like that, like because they want to believe that Dom didn't do it.

[00:22:22] And so and because he's a minor,

[00:22:25] his name hasn't been released to the public or anything.

[00:22:27] So he can go about his everyday life.

[00:22:30] And so they go to Bear Academy, which is a school that their parents founded

[00:22:36] that is scholarship based, but it's scholarships only for people who are in need.

[00:22:42] So you don't it's like a prestigious school,

[00:22:44] but you have to be somebody who is in need to go there.

[00:22:47] So you can't be like some rich kid who just wants to go to a good school kind of thing.

[00:22:52] Like it's a private school, but not necessarily like for rich kids.

[00:22:56] It's exclusionary.

[00:22:58] Yeah, it's one of those like down the street.

[00:23:00] Yeah, it's still it's basically the idea of like our family, you know,

[00:23:04] built up our wealth and now we're giving back and we're pulling other people up with us.

[00:23:08] You know, I love that.

[00:23:10] So which is really cool.

[00:23:11] It's it's a good idea.

[00:23:12] And so wish that would happen in real life.

[00:23:14] Right.

[00:23:15] And so they go to this school along with, you know,

[00:23:20] and and they are wealthy, so they are not need based, but they want to set a good

[00:23:24] example that that, you know, our the school is good enough for our kids.

[00:23:29] So it's not saying like, oh, this is like a bad school.

[00:23:33] We're just sending all the needy kids there.

[00:23:34] Like it's actually a good school.

[00:23:36] We're we're sending our kids there as well kind of thing.

[00:23:39] And so Sunny feels like because she is a part of the Bear family,

[00:23:44] she has to present a certain image to be like friendly with everybody and be

[00:23:49] able to like have, you know, help anybody, blah, blah, blah, that kind of thing

[00:23:53] represent the school properly.

[00:23:54] And so she's very, she's very like presents a certain way and it can come off.

[00:24:01] She thinks she's she's being nice and friendly to everybody.

[00:24:04] And then later finds out that everybody kind of is not interpreting that in the same

[00:24:09] way as she is trying to come up.

[00:24:12] But then so everything's going fine.

[00:24:15] And then there is a murder on campus, a but a murder.

[00:24:21] A kid ends up dead.

[00:24:23] And this is the child death.

[00:24:24] So they're teenagers.

[00:24:25] So it was like, I mean, not that that's better, but it's like for me.

[00:24:28] Like small children.

[00:24:30] And so there is murder on campus and Sunny is the one who discovers the body.

[00:24:38] And when she discovers the body, Dom is there with blood on his hands.

[00:24:42] And she's like, oh shit.

[00:24:43] But then she remembers her mom's note, like take care of Dom.

[00:24:46] And so what she does is she wipes it down and, you know, does things to the crime scene.

[00:24:52] Girl, that never works.

[00:24:54] Never works right?

[00:24:55] So.

[00:24:55] So.

[00:24:56] So, yeah.

[00:24:58] So then they are there's a new investigation going on and they're trying to figure out,

[00:25:05] you know, what and this kid that was murdered was a black kid.

[00:25:09] And so, you know, there's police investigation, but it kind of dies off because as we know,

[00:25:14] police are not the best.

[00:25:16] And then there's another murder that happens and this is a white chick.

[00:25:22] And so clearly and it's at the same school.

[00:25:25] And so now all of a sudden, hey, people are paying more attention.

[00:25:29] And the mother of like Dom's girlfriend that was murdered has decided to like rally

[00:25:36] the rally the troops and be like protesting the school and be like, you guys can't

[00:25:40] protect our kids and blah, blah, blah.

[00:25:42] And leaks, not leaks.

[00:25:44] She just says his name.

[00:25:45] Like he was charged for my daughter's murder and he should be charged for blah,

[00:25:49] blah, blah.

[00:25:50] And so, yeah.

[00:25:52] So it's it's all a big media circus at this point.

[00:25:55] And so Sunny and Dom are trying to do their own like low key investigation

[00:26:00] to figure out what's going on.

[00:26:02] And there's like kind of like a supernatural element to it that Sunny

[00:26:07] does not really know about.

[00:26:08] And the reader does because the reader is getting snippets of her mother's

[00:26:14] journals from when she was younger.

[00:26:16] And these are these journal journal entries were supposed to have gone to Sunny.

[00:26:21] She's supposed to have this information,

[00:26:23] but for some reason it was not included with her little post-it note from the bill.

[00:26:28] And so we find out later on why that is and it is

[00:26:33] bunkers and it's so good and it's so well written.

[00:26:36] And there's all these twists and turns and things that I did not expect.

[00:26:40] The way that Lissalle Sanbury writes is just so like it's like creepily

[00:26:46] atmospheric, but in a way that you like like I could read this at night with the

[00:26:52] lights off in bed and be fine, but it's still like creepy, but not in a way where

[00:26:56] you're like you're not like I can't sleep.

[00:26:59] Yeah, it's so good.

[00:27:01] Like I really asked that the mom like

[00:27:04] bleeding the charge like that wouldn't be all of us if it was like one of our

[00:27:08] like one of ours, one of our crew.

[00:27:11] Well, it would be like I would I would want to burn the world down.

[00:27:14] I would take everybody down.

[00:27:16] Though the whole yeah,

[00:27:18] the thing is like the thing is it's like, is he guilty though?

[00:27:22] Is he guilty? First of is he guilty?

[00:27:24] There's there's not been a trial yet.

[00:27:26] So there's she's just going off the assumption that he was the one who killed her

[00:27:30] and added onto that is, you know, they're a black family, they're wealthy

[00:27:36] and affluent, but they're still a black family.

[00:27:39] And this is racist.

[00:27:41] And so no, no, that's an added layer to that.

[00:27:45] And so I was just saying like I'll go to my grave screaming about Casey Anthony.

[00:27:49] Yeah, I would whether she's proven guilty or not.

[00:27:53] Like you're guilty though.

[00:27:55] So like I would lead a charge if I was like, that's the person who killed my

[00:28:00] might, yeah, whatever.

[00:28:01] You know, like, yeah, you can't not when you're a racist.

[00:28:04] You can't just say that because you're racist.

[00:28:06] Well, and then the other thing is like they interviewed because they were

[00:28:10] protesting outside of the school and there was like a news crew there and they were

[00:28:13] live and the news anchor was like interviewing her and she drops his name.

[00:28:20] Like she straight up says his name and they legally they can't release the name

[00:28:25] because he's a minor and it doesn't matter who it is.

[00:28:27] Like she was also specifically told that she knew what she was doing.

[00:28:32] She knew what she was doing and she blasted it all over social media.

[00:28:36] Girl.

[00:28:37] And even the news anchor kind of looked like, oh, shit, we're going to get

[00:28:40] like we're going to get in trouble for airing.

[00:28:42] Fine. Yeah, we're going to find for this.

[00:28:44] And so like, like I get like, yeah, if it was my kid, I would feel the same way.

[00:28:49] But at the same time, yeah, you'd be burning down the news station that's

[00:28:51] like, cool everything.

[00:28:53] But how much am I going to get?

[00:28:55] Like how much justice can I get from a jail cell?

[00:28:57] You know what I mean?

[00:28:58] True.

[00:28:59] Because like if I am told that legally, if I say this person's name as

[00:29:05] this minor's name publicly, that I could get fined or I could go to jail or whatever.

[00:29:11] There's you also have that layer of like I'm supposed to protect that person.

[00:29:17] Right?

[00:29:18] So I'm supposed to protect their identity when my kid is dead.

[00:29:21] Right. And it's so it's like, oh, that's good writing though.

[00:29:25] I know it's like you want to you like feel her anger because like as a parent

[00:29:31] you're like, you're a racist piece.

[00:29:33] You're racist and also it's like, oh, you don't want to support you.

[00:29:37] But like raising kids, there's also like not proof.

[00:29:42] Like there is no evidence that directly ties him to it.

[00:29:46] It just so happens that he happened to be the last person to see her before she

[00:29:50] disappeared, you know? So it's like the writing is so good.

[00:29:54] And it's just oh my God.

[00:29:57] Yeah. So I really liked it.

[00:29:59] The ending was not at all what I was expecting.

[00:30:02] And I love that about stories when I can't like predict what's going to happen

[00:30:08] or I think something is going to happen and then something else happens completely.

[00:30:12] And in the way that this story ends, I'm like, I feel like justice is served.

[00:30:19] But also like there's still more to the story.

[00:30:23] And I like I want it.

[00:30:25] It's so I feel like I feel like with the way that the story ended,

[00:30:30] that she could come back even for just like a little novella to wrap things up

[00:30:35] because there are some open ends to it.

[00:30:37] And I'm not sure necessarily that it's enough for like a full story,

[00:30:43] but definitely at least like a novella to like wrap it up over the course of maybe

[00:30:48] like a couple years post what happens at the end.

[00:30:52] Yeah.

[00:30:52] I'm trying so hard not to give spoilers, but it's so good.

[00:30:58] It's so good.

[00:30:59] So highly recommend it.

[00:31:01] And then I'm still working on just for the summer by Abby Jimenez,

[00:31:04] which I didn't talk about last week because I wasn't very far into it.

[00:31:07] But so this book opens with an Reddit thread, a Reddit Am I the Asshole

[00:31:14] thread where main character male main character Justin posed to Reddit.

[00:31:20] And he's asking Am I the asshole for naming my ugly dog after my ex best friend?

[00:31:28] And so based on that title, you're like, well, first of all,

[00:31:32] there's no such thing as an ugly dog.

[00:31:33] So yes, you're the asshole.

[00:31:35] You're ugly. You're the asshole.

[00:31:37] But then you read the story.

[00:31:39] And so I weirdly relate to this first.

[00:31:44] So Justin is posting to this Reddit thread and his background is he's like, OK,

[00:31:49] so anytime I date somebody and it doesn't work out immediately after we break up,

[00:31:55] the next person that they date is the one.

[00:31:58] They find the one.

[00:32:00] They get married.

[00:32:01] They live happily ever after.

[00:32:02] And and I'm like, that is very weirdly relatable.

[00:32:07] But that's beside the point.

[00:32:09] And so then he's talking about his best friend, Chad.

[00:32:14] Names changed for privacy reasons.

[00:32:16] His him not me, because obviously they're usually like Chad.

[00:32:21] We have a project.

[00:32:22] So anyways, so he's like my best friend, Chad, we've lived together for such and

[00:32:27] such this many years, blah, blah, blah.

[00:32:28] And this, you know, this curse that I have was was always kind of a joke for us

[00:32:34] until I started dating hope.

[00:32:36] And then when we broke up at her and Chad get together and now Chad

[00:32:41] and they break up amicably.

[00:32:43] It's not like a big traumatizing thing.

[00:32:45] So all of these relationships where they go on to find the one,

[00:32:48] their amicable breakups, he gets invited to the wedding and things like that.

[00:32:53] But so when he and hope break up, hope and Chad start dating and it's going really

[00:33:00] well and they're going to get married and Chad is like, I'm moving out.

[00:33:06] Which would be really great for him, except for Justin can't afford the rent

[00:33:11] on their apartment by himself.

[00:33:13] And he can't break the lease.

[00:33:15] And so well, this he's like, well, that really sucks, bro.

[00:33:18] And so what Justin ends up doing is speaking with like the apartment

[00:33:24] complex manager and moving into a studio apartment in the same building.

[00:33:30] Sight and scene only to find out that right outside of his window is a gigantic

[00:33:37] billboard for the toilet king.

[00:33:39] And it's literally like the I don't know, the guy with the plunger view.

[00:33:44] Everybody wants.

[00:33:45] Yeah, it's exactly it's exactly what you want.

[00:33:48] And so now that he is in this terrible situation and he works from home full time.

[00:33:55] So that's that's that's all he sees.

[00:33:57] And so so he's like, so then I ended up getting a dog and I named him after

[00:34:03] Chad and hope thinks that it's Chad thinks it's funny and hope does not

[00:34:08] appreciate it and is insisting that I need to change the name of the dog, blah,

[00:34:13] blah, blah. And so blah, blah, am I the asshole?

[00:34:16] And so that's how the story opens.

[00:34:18] And you have the female main character Emma who reads this post and is like, oh,

[00:34:23] shit, I have that same curse.

[00:34:26] And so they her best friend, Maddie, is like, you need to DM him.

[00:34:31] You need to see you need to be like this.

[00:34:33] This is which one of you is going to out curse the other.

[00:34:35] Yeah. And so they end up DMing.

[00:34:38] Maddie within like two minutes has like found his Instagram profile,

[00:34:43] his Facebook profile, she has LinkedIn profile, like full on cyber stocked.

[00:34:48] This man and it's glorious.

[00:34:50] And we all have a girlfriend.

[00:34:52] She's FBI. You know that way.

[00:34:54] Yeah, I can find somebody.

[00:34:56] Yeah. And all they have is literally all they have is his Reddit.

[00:35:00] Like I found his mother's maiden name.

[00:35:03] I found her address.

[00:35:04] It's so good.

[00:35:06] And it's so relatable.

[00:35:07] Sister likes to go to the gym.

[00:35:08] No, and so they start DMing and it's a very cute interaction.

[00:35:14] And Emma is a traveling nurse and they're currently on assignment,

[00:35:18] I want to say in like Colorado or something.

[00:35:21] And once that's done, they're going to be going to Hawaii.

[00:35:24] And so, meanwhile, they're DMing with each other and Justin's friend, Brad,

[00:35:30] who is Chad from the story, Brad is like, you know, if you guys date

[00:35:35] each other, that means your curses cancel out and the next person you date will be

[00:35:40] the one for you. Yeah. Right.

[00:35:42] And so Justin kind of jokingly is like, you know, if we did this,

[00:35:47] this would happen.

[00:35:48] And Emma's like, haha, very funny.

[00:35:51] And Justin's like, I mean, we could give it a try.

[00:35:54] Like when you could you could how do you choose your next assignments?

[00:35:58] And so her and Maddie kind of go back and forth choosing where they're going

[00:36:01] to be working next.

[00:36:03] And so even though they have planned to go to Hawaii, Justin's

[00:36:07] the conversation with Justin, Emma is has been like, OK, you know what?

[00:36:11] Maybe maybe we're going to try this.

[00:36:13] And so she convinces Maddie that instead of going to Hawaii for six weeks,

[00:36:18] they're going to go to Minnesota for six weeks.

[00:36:21] Absolutely not. Absolutely not.

[00:36:24] That's not happening.

[00:36:26] And I'm going to settle on your own.

[00:36:28] Oh, no.

[00:36:29] I'll be going to Hawaii.

[00:36:31] So but then Emma is like, listen, this is this is where we would live.

[00:36:35] I found this gorgeous like beach house.

[00:36:38] It's basically on its own island.

[00:36:40] Like it would be a gorgeous place to live and we would be working at Royume,

[00:36:44] which is like one of the best, I guess, hospitals or like places to work for,

[00:36:50] you know, medical people.

[00:36:51] And so Maddie's like, I don't know.

[00:36:54] And they're thinking she's thinking about it.

[00:36:56] And then Emma brings up previous like assignment that they had where Maddie

[00:37:03] had been like, we're going to live in this luxury trailer and it's going to be

[00:37:08] wonderful and they turn up in its trash.

[00:37:11] And so yeah.

[00:37:13] And Maddie's like, OK, fine, but this is the last time you ever bring that up.

[00:37:16] And we're never talking about it again.

[00:37:19] And that's how she convinces her to go to Minnesota for six weeks.

[00:37:22] And they're like, it'll be just for the summer.

[00:37:24] I will stay in a trailer in Hawaii.

[00:37:28] OK, I'll stay in the trash trailer in Hawaii.

[00:37:30] But yeah. And so Minnesota.

[00:37:33] No offense to Minnesota.

[00:37:35] But yeah. And so so then they go to Minnesota and they are on assignment

[00:37:41] in Minnesota for six weeks and Emma and Justin make these rules for like, OK,

[00:37:46] this is this is the general like similarities between all of the previous

[00:37:52] people that we dated.

[00:37:53] Like it has to be, you know, at least four dates.

[00:37:56] It has to be at least a month.

[00:37:58] We have to kiss at least one time all of these like things that they're like,

[00:38:02] yeah, this is going to be the best way for us to break our curses.

[00:38:06] But of course it's an Abby Jimenez book.

[00:38:09] So things don't go as planned because they are just too cute for each other.

[00:38:16] I it's so good.

[00:38:19] It's so good.

[00:38:20] And I'm like halfway through and I'm dying.

[00:38:24] I'm dying. I need to know what happens because there are there are other

[00:38:28] circumstances surrounding both of their lives and how will that come together?

[00:38:34] And we know it's a capital R robot.

[00:38:37] So there will be an H.E.A.

[00:38:39] Yeah, just trying to figure out like, how is that going to happen?

[00:38:42] Because there's a lot going on here.

[00:38:43] There's a lot going on.

[00:38:45] I don't know how it's going to happen.

[00:38:46] Really, I'm really excited to find out.

[00:38:48] So that is that is what I've been reading.

[00:38:53] I need to give a disclaimer.

[00:38:54] I keep messing with my eyes and my glasses.

[00:38:56] I got new glasses yesterday and my prescription is changed slightly.

[00:39:00] So viewers of the YouTube, I'm not cracked out.

[00:39:04] I'm just like every time I blink, my eyes are like readjusting.

[00:39:12] You were telling stuff and I just kept like messing with the course

[00:39:16] because like my eyes are freaked out right now.

[00:39:18] That's fair. That's fair.

[00:39:20] Anyways, do you have a fictional boyfriend this week?

[00:39:27] I do. I have two.

[00:39:29] First of course is Flint Montgomery from The Crazy Angel.

[00:39:34] My sweet, very angel.

[00:39:36] I love him so much.

[00:39:38] He's so funny and also there's that moment in Crush where he like reveals

[00:39:45] a secret about himself to a crap.

[00:39:47] What's her name?

[00:39:48] Grace.

[00:39:49] Grace. Thank you.

[00:39:51] I was like, is it Grace?

[00:39:52] Am I thinking of something else?

[00:39:53] He reveals a secret to Grace and I'm like, sweet baby angel.

[00:39:57] I know.

[00:39:58] I can't wait.

[00:39:58] I can't wait.

[00:40:00] I'm sitting there.

[00:40:01] I'm sitting there.

[00:40:02] It's so funny because like he was talking about it and I'm like, oh,

[00:40:05] oh, I know where this is going and Grace has no idea because she's so dumb.

[00:40:09] But she's also not dumb, but she's so dumb because I know exactly where

[00:40:13] this is going and what he's trying to say.

[00:40:16] My sweet baby angel.

[00:40:18] I love him so much.

[00:40:19] I want to say so much.

[00:40:20] I want to say so many things, but I can't say anything.

[00:40:23] I love him so much and I'm so terrified because I don't know which book it was

[00:40:27] that Beth was reading, but she like was reading and she she ended it and she's

[00:40:31] like Tracy Wolfe is sadistic and and that was I know.

[00:40:35] And I'm like, don't tell me things.

[00:40:37] Don't tell me things because I am scared.

[00:40:40] I am scared and I don't want to be scared.

[00:40:43] You don't want me.

[00:40:44] I don't want my babies.

[00:40:47] So Flint is the love of my life this week.

[00:40:51] Baby loves sweet love him so much.

[00:40:54] And oh, hi, Georgie.

[00:40:56] George.

[00:40:58] And then my other fictional boyfriend this week is Justin from Just For The

[00:41:03] Summer. This man is OK.

[00:41:05] First of all, I know that he's not real.

[00:41:07] He's literally a fictional man.

[00:41:08] But my God, my God.

[00:41:10] OK, so they before their first date,

[00:41:14] he sends her a questionnaire of like what what meal would you like to have?

[00:41:20] Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and then like what like the how are we going

[00:41:26] to dress is going to be super cat like pajamas, super casual business casual

[00:41:29] all like double or seven like and all it's this cutest thing where he

[00:41:34] sends this whole questionnaire for her to like pick things that they want

[00:41:38] to do for their date and it's so cute.

[00:41:41] And then he sends an exit interview like questionnaire.

[00:41:45] Oh, I love it is so stinking cute.

[00:41:49] I am like he might be my favorite.

[00:41:53] Abby Jimenez boyfriend.

[00:41:54] I love him.

[00:41:56] I love him so much.

[00:41:57] And it's just going to keep getting better.

[00:41:59] I know it's going to keep getting better.

[00:42:01] And I'm not prepared for how good it's going to be.

[00:42:04] So yes, that that that's my yeah,

[00:42:07] I have good ones that clearly I'm very passionate about.

[00:42:14] What about you?

[00:42:16] I'm going to go with Jude Abernathy Lee because I was raised by a beetle head

[00:42:21] and he's named after he Jude one like my mother is a crazy Beatles fan.

[00:42:27] So I wouldn't have had a chance.

[00:42:29] And then like I love an angsty moody.

[00:42:34] I don't even really know who I picture for him yet.

[00:42:36] That's I don't know.

[00:42:37] Give it time, give it time.

[00:42:39] Yeah, I'm digging him though.

[00:42:40] And then of course, like Remy Boudreau, you haven't met Remy yet?

[00:42:44] When you do my little little baby angel.

[00:42:50] I love him so much.

[00:42:53] He this is not the book about him, but he's made an appearance already.

[00:42:57] So I'm less annoyed than I was last week.

[00:43:01] I was like.

[00:43:03] So yeah, I love my baby Remy.

[00:43:06] I don't care what they try to say in this series.

[00:43:08] He did not he's done nothing wrong.

[00:43:09] He will never do anything wrong.

[00:43:10] He's perfect and wonderful.

[00:43:12] Am I sweet baby angel and like get behind me, baby?

[00:43:15] I got you.

[00:43:16] I'll fist fight all of them.

[00:43:18] So yeah, dude and Remy.

[00:43:23] Grant from how you end a love story too.

[00:43:26] Because again, I'm stuck for a monologue.

[00:43:29] My dude like I don't want to give away anything.

[00:43:32] But I also love a like you want me to beg you drops to their knees.

[00:43:36] Like, oh my God, please.

[00:43:39] My God.

[00:43:40] What did you say?

[00:43:41] What did you say?

[00:43:42] Please don't do this or please don't eat it.

[00:43:45] Please whatever. Oh my God.

[00:43:46] I love you would love Leo from the ones we hate.

[00:43:51] My God, that man, that man, you want me to beg you or like I would take you

[00:43:57] even if even if you wanted to be with other people like I would take

[00:44:01] it if like whatever scraps you could give me.

[00:44:03] If you come back smelling like somebody else, I don't care.

[00:44:07] What?

[00:44:09] I love you, sweetie.

[00:44:11] I love when they're just gone.

[00:44:13] They're gone, completely gone.

[00:44:16] The line I just read a line in just for the summer where I think it was Brad

[00:44:21] who is like, bro, you are so wrong for her.

[00:44:25] Like you're you're gone.

[00:44:26] And yeah, I know.

[00:44:28] Yes.

[00:44:28] We love that.

[00:44:29] We love that.

[00:44:30] We love you.

[00:44:31] Oh, so good.

[00:44:34] So good.

[00:44:35] Yeah, love, love, love.

[00:44:41] OK, thin, girl freestyle.

[00:44:44] Did you think of anything?

[00:44:46] I have something if you don't.

[00:44:47] I did not.

[00:44:48] OK, so this has been something.

[00:44:52] It's been some discourse over on threads for a few weeks now.

[00:44:57] I feel like I feel like every time I open threads, this is something

[00:45:00] that is being talked about and it's driving me crazy.

[00:45:03] So thoughts on.

[00:45:05] So basically what is happening is that there are two factions.

[00:45:10] There are the authors who are like, I send my arcs out into the world.

[00:45:14] And if they review them, they review them.

[00:45:15] If they don't, that's their business.

[00:45:17] And then there is the faction of authors who are like, I sent arcs into the world

[00:45:22] and I'm getting like 20 percent return on investment and no.

[00:45:26] And I feel like people are just requesting arcs to get free books and blah,

[00:45:30] and they're not actually doing what they're supposed to be doing.

[00:45:33] And so I'm sitting here like you do realize that it's it's a marketing thing.

[00:45:39] Like you, right?

[00:45:40] You you don't always get a return on your investment.

[00:45:45] No, and as someone who is and you will agree with this, I'm sure

[00:45:50] someone in media now we are in media, like this is media.

[00:45:54] Yeah, I got three PR boxes today.

[00:45:58] I got three books today.

[00:46:00] Yeah.

[00:46:00] And that's not the only books that are like or things I assume are books showing

[00:46:05] up in informed delivery.

[00:46:06] Yeah.

[00:46:07] Like we have you saw something in UPS today, like this whole bottom shelf

[00:46:13] behind me is arcs.

[00:46:14] Yeah.

[00:46:14] Do I want to read every single one of them?

[00:46:16] Absolutely.

[00:46:17] And I want to review them all honestly, whether I like them or didn't.

[00:46:21] But I also have a 40 hour a week full time job.

[00:46:25] I'm trying to write my own book.

[00:46:26] I've got two kids that live here half the time who have to get to and from school

[00:46:31] and to sporting events.

[00:46:32] My husband has a side hustle that I help on in his podcast.

[00:46:36] I've got to film and prepare for and talk on this podcast.

[00:46:40] There's and then you have to sleep and you have to eat.

[00:46:42] Yeah.

[00:46:42] If I guess it comes down to what the agreement was because we get a lot of

[00:46:47] cold books melt to us, right?

[00:46:50] Or hey, here's the net galley widget is your account now.

[00:46:53] Right.

[00:46:54] I never said I'm going to read this book when it's amber.

[00:46:57] Right.

[00:46:58] There is that I'm going to send this to you.

[00:47:00] Will you, you know, right?

[00:47:03] But then the other thing is like the other thing is that FTC regulations

[00:47:10] say you cannot give somebody something and manage a demand of you because

[00:47:17] that that's literally illegal.

[00:47:19] Like you literally cannot do that.

[00:47:21] So if you are sending out advanced copies of your book or even just review

[00:47:26] copies, like a finished copy you're sending out for somebody to read and review,

[00:47:30] you are sending that out in the hopes that somebody will review it.

[00:47:35] Yeah.

[00:47:35] But you cannot.

[00:47:36] And I think people want to.

[00:47:38] And yeah.

[00:47:39] And that's the thing.

[00:47:40] And I feel like there's so much like that I've seen so many posts recently

[00:47:46] where there are legitimately people being like, I think they're just asking

[00:47:50] for free books just to have free books.

[00:47:52] And it's like, that's not the case.

[00:47:54] Like really not.

[00:47:55] It's really not.

[00:47:56] And maybe there is a small percentage of people who are doing that.

[00:48:00] But the majority of reviewers want to read and review when I when I request

[00:48:06] something either on that galley or, you know, if we get a lot of like mailings

[00:48:11] from publishers who are like, Hey, are you interested in any of these?

[00:48:14] Yeah.

[00:48:15] And cold emails.

[00:48:16] Hey, would this book sound like something you'd want to be on a blog

[00:48:19] tour for?

[00:48:20] Right.

[00:48:20] Yes.

[00:48:20] But we have to prioritize.

[00:48:23] I'm going to prioritize my friends like that may sound shitty.

[00:48:27] I'm going to prioritize Amber.

[00:48:27] I'm going to prioritize Lana.

[00:48:29] I'm going to prioritize people I know because I know you.

[00:48:32] You know, I want, I want everybody's books to do well, but specifically I want

[00:48:36] my friends and then if we're going to have someone on our podcast,

[00:48:40] yeah, I have to prioritize them because they are giving their time

[00:48:44] to us to come and talk to us the least I can do.

[00:48:47] And sometimes I'm not even able to do that.

[00:48:50] Yeah.

[00:48:50] Because we have like, we have lives.

[00:48:52] Yeah.

[00:48:53] But the least I can do is truck and read their book, read some of it,

[00:48:57] read enough to be able to have a thoughtful conversation with them.

[00:49:00] If I had to read every single arc that I've ever been sent,

[00:49:05] I would have time to do nothing else.

[00:49:07] Yeah.

[00:49:07] And I hate that.

[00:49:08] I hate that.

[00:49:09] I do.

[00:49:10] You know, and then there's then then there's the reviewers who are commenting

[00:49:15] on this discourse who are like, well, I don't treat this as a hobby.

[00:49:19] And if I agree to this, then I'm going to do this.

[00:49:21] And I'm like, you're not being paid for it.

[00:49:23] No, first of all.

[00:49:24] So by definition, it's a hobby.

[00:49:26] Like right?

[00:49:28] It's not a job.

[00:49:29] It is not a job.

[00:49:30] You are not being unless work for a publisher.

[00:49:33] You're not an editing.

[00:49:34] No.

[00:49:35] And unless you are unless you have a paid sponsorship or a paid promotion

[00:49:40] or something like that, fair, you are being paid to talk to read, review,

[00:49:46] whatever, to read and moderate.

[00:49:48] It's something that's completely different.

[00:49:51] You are actually being paid for your time.

[00:49:54] Getting a free copy of a book is not payment.

[00:49:58] And yes, that could that does.

[00:50:01] I mean, finished copies, they do have a monetary value arcs not so much.

[00:50:04] But like, I mean, they have a value that we assign to them.

[00:50:07] But there's a cost of course.

[00:50:10] There's a cost of printing.

[00:50:11] But at the end of the day, like you are not being paid.

[00:50:16] You're not getting a book and that is not something that you can then take

[00:50:21] and go live your life with.

[00:50:24] Right. If you are not paying your bills,

[00:50:27] yeah, paying your bills with that copy of whatever.

[00:50:30] Whatever it is.

[00:50:31] And so it's just it's it's mind-boggling like that.

[00:50:35] And there are like so many authors who are like, listen,

[00:50:39] and I saw one the other day where somebody was like,

[00:50:43] I sent out this many arcs and I only got like only like 40 percent of people

[00:50:48] actually reviewed it and everybody is like, dude, 10 percent is the norm.

[00:50:54] That's the average return on investment for art.

[00:50:57] The fact that you're getting 40 percent is that's really good.

[00:51:00] It's really good.

[00:51:02] And so it does.

[00:51:04] It makes no sense for you to be complaining about 40 percent of your return.

[00:51:09] And I'm just like, it is insane.

[00:51:11] And then there are people who are like, well, we shouldn't be we shouldn't be

[00:51:15] OK with 10 percent being the norm.

[00:51:17] Like, but why why?

[00:51:21] No one unless like you said there is an actual paid partnership agreement.

[00:51:25] No one owes you their time.

[00:51:27] No. Because you don't ever know what comes up in someone's life.

[00:51:32] You know, yeah, I said I'd read it.

[00:51:34] But then, you know, XYZ is a car accident or, you know, yeah.

[00:51:38] I had to do this or my mother needed, you know, my dad fell off a ladder and broke his

[00:51:43] hip like right.

[00:51:45] There are things that just happen, things happen.

[00:51:48] And nobody I nobody that I know is requesting things in bad faith.

[00:51:54] I don't know a single reviewer who is

[00:51:57] requesting a book in bad faith that they're never going to read.

[00:52:02] They're never going to write.

[00:52:03] Everybody is everybody wants to read and review.

[00:52:07] It's just a matter of having the time to do it.

[00:52:11] And especially like you said, like for us, you got literally got three two day in one

[00:52:16] singular day, three books came.

[00:52:19] I have I think I have two that are arriving on Tuesday, you know?

[00:52:25] And I'm and I already have like a mind boggling amount.

[00:52:29] I literally I've said multiple times.

[00:52:32] I'm like, I have I think I've read like 10, 15 arcs that I just have not had the

[00:52:38] time to sit down and write a review.

[00:52:40] Because you're a child.

[00:52:41] I have a job.

[00:52:42] I have a life.

[00:52:43] I always I'm always joking, but it's so like legit.

[00:52:47] Like I have I have to take care of my father.

[00:52:50] I have to care of my mother.

[00:52:51] I have to care of my daughter.

[00:52:52] I have to care of myself.

[00:52:53] I have a full-time job.

[00:52:54] I have this podcast.

[00:52:55] That's like five full-time jobs on top and then to add in arc reading and

[00:53:01] reviewing like I love doing it.

[00:53:03] Don't get me wrong.

[00:53:04] I'm not complaining, but like that is also taking time out of my day.

[00:53:09] There's only so many hours to read the stories.

[00:53:11] Like if I could just do nothing, like if you want to, yeah, if you're going to

[00:53:16] pay my bills and have me read a arc.

[00:53:19] Yes.

[00:53:19] Yes.

[00:53:20] If that's what I was thinking about that, I've seen occasionally on Instagram

[00:53:25] and on book talk where people in their bio will have like DM me for my arc rate,

[00:53:31] like my arc reading, arc reader rate.

[00:53:33] And it's like, oh no, no, we don't ask to be paid.

[00:53:38] I've never seen that.

[00:53:40] And that is that is needed a few times.

[00:53:42] And it's like that is not OK.

[00:53:44] That is not that's bad.

[00:53:47] That's not great.

[00:53:48] That is not bad look.

[00:53:50] That is not that's against regulations for me.

[00:53:54] Yeah.

[00:53:55] That's not that's not a thing.

[00:53:57] Yeah, paid reviews are not and I don't know that I would trust a paid review.

[00:54:02] You know what I mean?

[00:54:03] Because like what are you going to do?

[00:54:04] You're going to get paid to say bad shit about somebody's whatever,

[00:54:09] whatever their product is.

[00:54:10] Nobody's getting paid to say bad things about somebody's product.

[00:54:13] And so yeah, like I wouldn't trust a paid review.

[00:54:17] So it's just it's just been so wild to see like literally it's been like

[00:54:22] two weeks and every time I open, I need to get back on threads and be like,

[00:54:26] excuse me, guys, every time I open threads, it's there's a new thing about,

[00:54:31] you know, arc readers and oh my god, I saw something where they're like,

[00:54:36] all arc readers are like liars and thieves because all they want is is free books.

[00:54:41] Oh, so you've never gotten an arc in your jealous about that?

[00:54:44] Wow.

[00:54:45] Just you just hold the whole internet that you're mad that you've never

[00:54:48] received an arc and so you have to shit on people who do.

[00:54:51] No, these are coming from authors.

[00:54:53] This is something I saw an author say.

[00:54:55] My god.

[00:54:56] And I'm like, are you fucking kidding me?

[00:54:59] Like don't send out arcs for your book.

[00:55:02] Right. You hate arc readers.

[00:55:03] Fine.

[00:55:04] A loud valid.

[00:55:05] I'm sure some of them do suck.

[00:55:07] I just don't get being an arc reader because I don't have time to read

[00:55:10] every single one I get.

[00:55:11] But you don't don't send out.

[00:55:12] You're not requesting things just to have them.

[00:55:15] You didn't really want to read them.

[00:55:18] Yeah.

[00:55:18] And life happens.

[00:55:20] Right.

[00:55:21] It's it's just and I have even gone into netgalley, like knowing that it will hurt

[00:55:27] my ratio, but I have gone to the like I will not be reading this book.

[00:55:31] And I like given the reason like, hey, life got more intense than I thought.

[00:55:36] And I'm not going to be able to read this book by the time that you would

[00:55:39] want reviews in, I apologize.

[00:55:41] Yeah.

[00:55:42] But I would rather be honest there than, you know, just write some nonsense

[00:55:47] and not actually read the book like I'm not going to do that.

[00:55:49] Right.

[00:55:50] I'll go in and say I'm not able to review this anymore like I thought it was.

[00:55:54] I will I'm so I have books that like I arc read back in like I'm not kidding,

[00:56:03] like November and I have not written about them.

[00:56:06] Like I've read them.

[00:56:07] Yeah.

[00:56:07] But like the sitting down to the right is the part that was so much.

[00:56:11] It's you have to.

[00:56:13] So much.

[00:56:14] And it's, you know, and I get it.

[00:56:16] People think like that's not it's not I always should take you 10 minutes.

[00:56:19] It really doesn't.

[00:56:20] It's not though, because they when

[00:56:24] I don't know, I don't know.

[00:56:26] Like for me, I want to be able to put together something thoughtful because

[00:56:30] you want to be engaging.

[00:56:32] They took the time to write this.

[00:56:34] So many people touched this to make it happen.

[00:56:37] Right.

[00:56:38] I'm not just right.

[00:56:39] Good book.

[00:56:40] Right.

[00:56:40] That doesn't tell anybody anything.

[00:56:43] No.

[00:56:43] I'm going to give you a brief synopsis.

[00:56:45] I'm going to tell you what I liked.

[00:56:47] If there were things I didn't like.

[00:56:49] Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna take my time.

[00:56:52] I'm gonna put in at least a little bit of effort and that takes time.

[00:56:56] I take time and it takes brain power and I don't always have that.

[00:57:01] My poor brain is overwhelmed a lot.

[00:57:06] So yeah, it's threads.

[00:57:09] You know, when threads first came out, it was so nice.

[00:57:11] I'm surprised with the red.

[00:57:13] It has been it was so nice and lovely.

[00:57:16] And now I'm just seeing all this author discourse and it's like, guys,

[00:57:21] we used to just got a calm down.

[00:57:23] People tried to go after Victoria A.

[00:57:25] Byard for asking a question and I'm like, no, no, no, no.

[00:57:28] Not no.

[00:57:29] You guys need to stop.

[00:57:30] She legitimately she asked if and this is this is something that I don't

[00:57:35] have an answer to you and I don't know that I have an opinion on.

[00:57:38] But she was asking if Romanticie falls more

[00:57:41] under romance or fantasy. I saw that.

[00:57:44] And if it and if it falls under more under romance, then does it have to follow

[00:57:48] the convention of having an AGA?

[00:57:51] And she wasn't asking to change the romance convention.

[00:57:56] She was firmly firmly of the belief that romance should have an AGA.

[00:58:02] But what she wanted to know was was Romanticie romance first in that.

[00:58:07] Yeah. And then that has to have an AGA or is it fantasy?

[00:58:11] Doesn't because exactly fantasy doesn't doesn't always have a ending.

[00:58:15] I feel like it leads more fantasy.

[00:58:18] My so my thoughts are

[00:58:20] because I feel like fourth wing is going to really hurt.

[00:58:23] I feel like I feel like romanticies are the if you take the romance out

[00:58:29] of the fantasy, it doesn't work right in a romantic.

[00:58:32] If you take the romance out, it's not it's not going to work.

[00:58:35] The romance is a key part of that fantasy story.

[00:58:38] Right. And so I think at the end of the fantasy out, it's not Romanticie either.

[00:58:43] But it's it's yeah.

[00:58:44] But it's not like it's a subplot.

[00:58:46] You know what I mean? Yeah.

[00:58:47] You know, romance is not a subplot.

[00:58:50] You can have a fantasy story with romance in it, with romantic elements in it.

[00:58:54] But a romanticie very much focuses on both parts.

[00:58:57] You have a romance in a fantasy setting.

[00:59:00] Right. Yeah. So if you remove the romance, it doesn't work.

[00:59:04] So I think and this might be, you know, not what people think.

[00:59:08] But in my opinion, Romanticie, you have at the end of it, you do have an H.A.

[00:59:16] But Romanticie from what I've seen recently, there has not been Romanticie

[00:59:21] stand alone, so a Romanticie feels like more of like a serious thing.

[00:59:25] And so like fourth wing, you're not going to have the H.A.

[00:59:28] At the end of fourth wing, but maybe at the end of the Empyrean series.

[00:59:31] There's a H.A. kind of thing.

[00:59:32] You know what I mean?

[00:59:33] So like at the end of this.

[00:59:34] I'm looking at throwing a glass and I'm like, was that happily?

[00:59:45] So it's like it's and it's and you know,

[00:59:48] and that's part of the conversation and there's no agreement upon

[00:59:52] it within anywhere in publishing.

[00:59:56] There's no agreement as to whether or not what it is.

[00:59:59] And so she was just trying to start conversations.

[01:00:01] This is all not like a drama.

[01:00:03] Well, for her, for her, she was like and I think it had to do with what she's

[01:00:08] working on next, she's like, I don't want to.

[01:00:11] I don't want to call it a Romanticie if there are certain things that people

[01:00:14] are expecting from it.

[01:00:16] But I don't know what those things.

[01:00:18] I bet it's pirates.

[01:00:19] Yeah, because she's going to the Bahamas on a research trip.

[01:00:24] I'm like, mm hmm.

[01:00:25] And I'm so excited to see what she brings up

[01:00:28] because she she she's of our generation, you know, so we grew up on the same things.

[01:00:34] And so for her to be writing for herself,

[01:00:37] like things that she wanted for herself at that age, it's like that's exactly what

[01:00:42] we would want. Yeah, so for sure.

[01:00:45] Very much looking forward to that.

[01:00:46] But yeah, so it's been threats has been there's been so there's been so much

[01:00:52] good stuff that's come of threads, like especially like Bridget

[01:00:56] Kemmerer and Clairville Ortega have been really great resources for like anybody

[01:01:01] who's trying to get into publishing, who's this, this and that and stuff.

[01:01:05] And they've been amazing.

[01:01:07] And then you have the other side of threads where it's like this bullshit

[01:01:11] about arch-readers being liars and thieves, like there's quite a mixed bag.

[01:01:16] And it's been interesting to open threads and not know what to expect.

[01:01:21] What am I getting today?

[01:01:22] What am I going to get the toxic side or am I going to get the positive side?

[01:01:27] I don't know.

[01:01:28] It's going to be a good time.

[01:01:30] We'll see.

[01:01:31] So yeah, that is that has been what has been on my mind recently.

[01:01:36] Yeah, I'm going to have to log into threads eventually every now and then.

[01:01:40] I'll be scrolling Instagram and there will be like a random thread.

[01:01:44] Yeah. And I'm like and I'm like I read enough of it that I'm like, damn it.

[01:01:47] I want to know what that says.

[01:01:48] So open up and then that open and then I start an hour there.

[01:01:52] And then you start scrolling and you're like, oh my God, what is happening?

[01:01:55] The world is is crazy.

[01:01:58] So yeah, what do you think listeners?

[01:02:01] What do you think about?

[01:02:02] Let us know how you are readers and arch reviewers and people who are.

[01:02:07] Yeah, do you think that I feel like most of the people,

[01:02:11] most of the people that I follow are like, I'll send an arch out into the

[01:02:15] wild and if they review it, then they review it.

[01:02:16] And if they don't, that's their choice.

[01:02:18] You know, yeah, I'm I'm just happy that I'm reading a really good book.

[01:02:22] I'm just happy that people are interested.

[01:02:25] And you know, and you know what?

[01:02:26] You can also promote a book like by word of mouth, like you don't necessarily.

[01:02:31] I mean, for the longest time I was talking about the the the ones we hate.

[01:02:35] And I hadn't read it yet.

[01:02:37] Yeah. And I was like, you could be like, oh, I got this arch the other day.

[01:02:40] And I don't know when I'll be able to read it, but it's about such

[01:02:44] and such as this and look at this and this and that.

[01:02:46] And like you can still build hype, but you just can't write it.

[01:02:51] Sometimes you just can't sit down and write a review or sit down and read it to

[01:02:54] write a review. And that doesn't mean that you are trying to steal this book

[01:02:59] from, you know, some the author or whatever.

[01:03:04] Yeah.

[01:03:06] And I'm just like every time I scroll and I see a bad take on it,

[01:03:09] I'm just like, OK, so I'm never buying anything from you.

[01:03:13] Yeah.

[01:03:13] Automatic like Deodorant.

[01:03:15] And I will say if it's indeed that reaches out to me and I say yes.

[01:03:20] I'm like, I was thinking about Katelyn Rush and the lies that Princess told you.

[01:03:24] Yeah.

[01:03:25] She said like, I want us to do a copy of my book.

[01:03:28] Is that OK?

[01:03:28] Yes, absolutely.

[01:03:29] And I prioritized reading that because like I don't want a mom who wrote a book

[01:03:34] in her kitchen with her kids running around her to spend money to print a book

[01:03:38] and send it to me and then me not read it.

[01:03:41] Like I'm not going to do that.

[01:03:42] A digital if I normally if I say to an author, yes, I'm going to read.

[01:03:47] I will. But but I get like a whole digital file.

[01:03:51] I'm like, yeah.

[01:03:52] And I had somebody reach out and be like, hey, I want to send you this.

[01:03:55] Would you be interested in reading and reviewing it?

[01:03:58] And I'd be like, I would.

[01:04:00] But this is what's going on.

[01:04:01] And I don't.

[01:04:02] And if you if you do send it, like I will appreciate it and I will get to it.

[01:04:06] But I can't guarantee when that's going to happen.

[01:04:09] Yeah, based on this week.

[01:04:11] X, Y, this is these are things that are coming up.

[01:04:13] This is what's happening in my life right now.

[01:04:15] And I'll post about it.

[01:04:16] Yeah. And I'm like, I don't know that I can do this in a timely manner.

[01:04:21] And so I give them all the information and they can make the decision.

[01:04:25] I'm like, your book comes out three weeks from now.

[01:04:27] I don't know that that's going to happen unless you're tired of Moffy.

[01:04:32] And we have and we even had somebody like a friend reach out and be like, hey,

[01:04:37] I have our copies of this and it comes out this day.

[01:04:40] And it's like, I don't know, three weeks from now.

[01:04:42] It's soon.

[01:04:43] Yeah.

[01:04:43] And it's something we want to read.

[01:04:45] But it's like desperately want to read.

[01:04:46] And we're like, yes, absolutely, we would love to.

[01:04:49] But we we don't know when that's going to happen.

[01:04:53] You know?

[01:04:53] And and we're like and like very desperately like want to read this.

[01:04:58] Yeah.

[01:04:58] But at the same time, it's like I'm struggling.

[01:05:00] I'm drowning right now.

[01:05:02] And I don't want to give you, you know, unclear expectations for this

[01:05:06] promise that I'm going to have it read by tomorrow when I cannot do that.

[01:05:10] Right. Exactly.

[01:05:11] Anyways, announcements.

[01:05:14] You're going to have a super secret fun episode next week.

[01:05:16] I'm not here for a super secret fun episode next week.

[01:05:20] And I'm not going to tell you anything about it because Mandy is currently

[01:05:25] listening if it if Mandy was not here, I would tell y'all all about it.

[01:05:29] But Mandy is here and she can hear me.

[01:05:30] So sorry.

[01:05:31] No, it's secrets.

[01:05:33] All the secrets.

[01:05:34] I was thinking the other day, I'm like, I could post it to Patreon.

[01:05:37] Mandy never checks Patreon.

[01:05:39] Yeah, I could.

[01:05:42] I could do that.

[01:05:42] So yeah, maybe I'll do that.

[01:05:44] Because they like because you have to log out as my user account.

[01:05:47] Like for when I subscribe, like the patrons I subscribe to.

[01:05:50] Yeah, to then log back like it's it's yeah.

[01:05:53] I have I have interface sucks.

[01:05:56] I have my I have the podcast logged in on my laptop and my personal one on my phone.

[01:06:03] So that's the only way I can do it.

[01:06:06] But I'm like otherwise I would never check it.

[01:06:10] Yeah, because it's it's just rude and it's annoying that you can't like gift.

[01:06:16] Like be like this email address can see.

[01:06:19] Yeah, that's in such like yeah.

[01:06:22] Agreed, annoying.

[01:06:23] But yeah, so next week, maybe I will post it to Patreon.

[01:06:27] Let them know you told me.

[01:06:29] I know.

[01:06:33] And I'm going to log in on my laptop.

[01:06:35] I'm going to change the password right now.

[01:06:40] I'm going to change the password and you won't be able to log in and you won't know.

[01:06:46] So yes, next week we will have a super special episode that is super secret

[01:06:52] and many news, nothing about it.

[01:06:54] At this point there are there's there's there's less than this many people

[01:06:58] that know what's going to happen next week.

[01:07:00] I held up a hand, guys, if I think I don't want to say exactly how many

[01:07:05] people know, but it's less than five.

[01:07:07] All right.

[01:07:08] And it's not going to be four because four is bad.

[01:07:11] Four is a bad number.

[01:07:12] OK, I guess the time for a spiel.

[01:07:16] Yeah, I have a dog listening very intently to me.

[01:07:19] He's like cocking his head when I talk.

[01:07:23] He wants to know he wants to know what's going on.

[01:07:26] He's like the spiel, I'm going to sit up for this.

[01:07:28] I got to be part of this, guys.

[01:07:30] I got to be part of it.
