[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I got the thing and I drooled. We're starting off strong.

[00:00:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's go in well.

[00:00:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to the Incoherent Fangirl.

[00:00:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Where before we started recording, I did an accidental thumbs up and then drooled on myself and then forgot how to word. So we're really starting out strong today.

[00:00:22] [SPEAKER_03]: It's going well.

[00:00:23] [SPEAKER_03]: It's going really well.

[00:00:25] [SPEAKER_03]: I am Karin from Romance Landia.

[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm Mandy of Terrison.

[00:00:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, okay, Mandy. I see what you did.

[00:00:35] [SPEAKER_03]: I forgot about this. So this is going to be a fun episode.

[00:00:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_03]: What is not fun though is this next part.

[00:00:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Ugh, so tired of you doing this to me.

[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_03]: You know what? It's the one thing that I do that makes you sad.

[00:00:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

[00:00:54] [SPEAKER_03]: We all have to have one. Okay, I can't be perfect.

[00:00:57] [SPEAKER_03]: And mad. Sorry.

[00:01:00] [SPEAKER_03]: In our timeline it is August 8th, aka my daughter's first day of fourth grade. And in Yall's timeline it is August 16th, which is the middle of the month.

[00:01:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Fun fact.

[00:01:11] [SPEAKER_03]: What the fuck?

[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_01]: For us, tomorrow is National Booklovers Day.

[00:01:15] [SPEAKER_01]: For the listeners, sorry you missed it.

[00:01:18] [SPEAKER_03]: I saw it today or I would have told you last week.

[00:01:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's cool.

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_03]: I guess I will have to be sick at work and read all day.

[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Right, it's only there.

[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, seriously.

[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, Mandy, this week in fan girling what did you do?

[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_01]: So first of all for my birthday we went to the beach and I was a little mastermindish.

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_01]: And so I put on the Throne of Glass audiobook because I was like this will grab him.

[00:01:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And it did.

[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_01]: So I've been rereading Throne of Glass for the past couple of months only when I like need an audiobook.

[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's not like I'm trying to read it every day or whatever, but if I'm driving or and by myself or cleaning up around the house,

[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll put in the Throne of Glass series was taking me a little bit longer.

[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_01]: But I just finished Empire of Storms.

[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_01]: If you know you know I've gotten my loric infix.

[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm with Dorian Havillard, Shadow Daddy.

[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_01]: It's everything.

[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_01]: And I obviously that's so many books in that I can't tell you a single thing about the plot.

[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_01]: But I have a controversial opinion and I don't care what anybody thinks about it.

[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_01]: And I will go to my grave with this opinion.

[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_01]: My note says, and I quote,

[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_01]: From the bottom of my heart and the depths of my soul.

[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_01]: If you have a single criticism of Aideen Ash River,

[00:02:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I have no use for you as a human being.

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I am in no way a safe space for Aideen Ash River slander.

[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I've gotten to the first part of why everybody hates him and I do not get it.

[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And you're all hypocrites.

[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll say that and you can fight me in my DMs.

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_01]: They're open.

[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_01]: They're open, baby.

[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Don't you dare slander Aideen Ash River in front of me.

[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I got heated.

[00:02:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I got heated today listening to it.

[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, how do people hate him?

[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_01]: How do people not like him?

[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't get it.

[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_01]: So I just needed to throw that out there into the universe.

[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Show husband has been listening.

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I think he's still in Assassin's Blade,

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_01]: but he's reading them in the correct order.

[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_01]: So I had him read it after Crown of Midnight,

[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_01]: which I think is going to be my official stance now that I'm listening to them again.

[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I read it first after air of fire.

[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I wish I had done it after Crown of Midnight.

[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Either way, it's fine as long as you don't read it before the final class.

[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't care.

[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's been a fun return to terrison.

[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_01]: It's been cathartic and devastating and like my soul genuinely needed

[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_01]: to re-listen to this series.

[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_03]: You've been talking about re-reading it for so long.

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I know how many times on this podcast have I said,

[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I just need to be with Dorian.

[00:03:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I just missed Dorian and he wasn't even like Lorcan was my man

[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_01]: from Throne of Glass, but it was like my fictional bestie.

[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I just missed Dorian, my sweet baby angel shadow boy.

[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_01]: So this technically I didn't read this week,

[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_01]: but we didn't get to talk about it last week

[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_01]: and I'm not not talking about it on the podcast.

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_01]: So you're just going to have to listen to it.

[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_01]: I read Quicksilver by Callie Hart.

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Cover is unique.

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like a very emo looking boy.

[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_01]: You've seen it with his hands like this around his neck

[00:04:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and he looks so tortured, but the book is really, really good.

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Actually like it.

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I had another book I was reading that I was really struggling through

[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_01]: and I would read for like 10 minutes and I would be falling asleep

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and it was like, oh my God, am I in a slump?

[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Am I in a reading slump?

[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I picked up this book and I read for three hours without stopping.

[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So the main character is Saras.

[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I'm pronouncing this right.

[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Bear with me.

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_01]: She basically lives in Dune.

[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_01]: So the terrain is desert, two suns, 24 seven, sand, hot.

[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Like they've never known anything cold

[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_01]: and her world is divided up like a wagon wheel.

[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's got like, it's round and it's got like spokes

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_01]: that divide the lands or the realms or the areas

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_01]: into different sectors.

[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_01]: And Saras and her brother Hayden live in the third district,

[00:04:59] [SPEAKER_01]: which is the plague district.

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_01]: So they take anybody who's sick, meaning the poor people

[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_01]: and throw them into the plague district.

[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of people die there.

[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Other people live their whole lives there in poverty basically.

[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Both of Saras' parents are dead.

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_01]: So they survive on Saras' ability to sneakly siphon water

[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_01]: because you get a ration of water every day.

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And in the third, that ration is not enough to survive on

[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_01]: because why do they care about the poor people?

[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_01]: And they also survive because she's a pretty slick thief.

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_01]: But in the very first chapter, she is caught by the undying

[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_01]: queen's guard stealing a piece of metal,

[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_01]: which she could use to barter for food

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_01]: or most importantly, like water, more water.

[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_01]: The guard that catches her, they're having an exchange

[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and he drops his metal gauntlet.

[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_01]: And Saras is like, this opportunity is, I cannot pass up.

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_01]: That could get us out of here.

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_01]: It could get us a mansion somewhere.

[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_01]: We could be set for life.

[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Like if I were to melt this down and sell it,

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm rich forever.

[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_01]: There's so much metal and the metal is, I guess, so valuable.

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_01]: So she snatches it and flees.

[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_01]: She scales up a wall like Spider-Man.

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Like she's really cool.

[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_01]: So she ends up going to like the crime lord in her area,

[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Karrion Swift.

[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I freaking love Karrion Swift.

[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_01]: He's so funny.

[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And she's talking to him.

[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_01]: He's kind of conned her brother.

[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_01]: And so she's kind of chewing him out.

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, here, brother, hold my bag.

[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Don't go in it.

[00:06:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Just hold my bag and wait outside.

[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna cuss this guy out for you real quick.

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, her brother ends up caught by the queen's guard

[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_01]: with this gauntlet.

[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_01]: The stolen from the guard gauntlet.

[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And she pulls kind of like a Katniss Everdeen

[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_01]: because they're about to like execute him in the street

[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_01]: or take him or whatever.

[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_01]: And so she's like, no, it was mine.

[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Do not take him.

[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Take me.

[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_01]: You can have whatever.

[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not letting you have my brother.

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_01]: But through some spoilery circumstances,

[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_01]: when she gets into the queen's castle,

[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_01]: she is like dragged through this pool of Quicksilver

[00:06:52] [SPEAKER_01]: by death himself.

[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_01]: But it's not actually death.

[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_01]: It's Kingfisher.

[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Kingfisher of the Ashen Gate.

[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Kingfisher, my tortured sweet, mean as fuck.

[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Baby Angel.

[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Kingfisher of the Shadow Daddy.

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_01]: They end up in the Fey realm of Ivelia.

[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And there are so many things here that Seris has never seen.

[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's cold there.

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_01]: There's night there.

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_01]: There's a moon there.

[00:07:12] [SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, what is a moon?

[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Like what?

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't even know what that is.

[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_01]: And she's like baffled by everything

[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_01]: because everything is new.

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_01]: There's Fey where they didn't know that was the thing.

[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_01]: So the longer she spends in Ivelia,

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_01]: the more she comes to learn about why she was specifically

[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_01]: able to go through this pool of Quicksilver

[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and what that may mean for her and for both realms.

[00:07:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I do want to give like a fair warning.

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not badly written,

[00:07:36] [SPEAKER_01]: but it could have used three or four more realms of editing.

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_01]: So there are a lot of typos.

[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_01]: There are a lot of like random sentences that don't make sense

[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_01]: or like that could have been worded differently.

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_01]: But the story was so good that I was hooked and I could...

[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_01]: They do take you out of the story when they happen because you're like,

[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I hate that.

[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I hate that that was worded that way.

[00:07:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I hate that, you know, hey, that you spelled this wrong.

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_01]: But the story was so good that it carries you through the typos

[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and the weird wording sometime.

[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_01]: The weird wording was rare.

[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_01]: There were a lot of spelling issues and I can spell usually.

[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_01]: So it bothered me.

[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_01]: So I just want to give that disclaimer that yes,

[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm recommending this book.

[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I am acknowledging that there are a few downsides,

[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_01]: but it's a good book.

[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I was glad I decided to pick it up.

[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Hopped on the hype train.

[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Hopped on the hype train.

[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because it's been all over TikTok.

[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I read...

[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_03]: There is a trigger warning that I think you should provide, right?

[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I will.

[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember what page.

[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Wait, was it that book?

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it was.

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.

[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm dumb.

[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_01]: You're just sleepy.

[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_01]: When trigger warning for people who have triggers surrounding

[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_01]: children or babies, there are vampires in this book.

[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_01]: And if you get to a point where a...

[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Sarah sees a woman dragging a doll who is...

[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_01]: The woman is like a zombie and she's dragging a doll.

[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go ahead and skip to the next section.

[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_01]: The next paragraph, I obviously don't enjoy reading about

[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_01]: children or babies being hurt, but it doesn't trigger me in

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_01]: a way that it would like a parent, someone who's given

[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_01]: birth.

[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of gruesome and graphic enough that I was

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_01]: like, oh Jesus Christ.

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_01]: So just, yeah, if you see a lady who's got a doll, go to

[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_01]: the next paragraph.

[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for reminding me of that because yeah, that's very

[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_01]: important.

[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_03]: She texted me that and I'm like, that's going to stay with

[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_03]: me.

[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:09:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm self-proclaimed of having a very bad memory, but that

[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_03]: is something that I'm going to remember.

[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And Brandy read it recently and she has the same trigger

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_01]: with that.

[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_01]: And I told her the same thing and she was like, yeah, I

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_01]: skipped.

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_01]: As soon as I got to what you're talking about, I skipped

[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_01]: because I don't need it.

[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't need, I didn't need to read it.

[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And some people may be like really it's not that bad, but

[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_01]: it just, the description is very, is rough to me.

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So and something that it's just rough.

[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Don't do it.

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Just skip it.

[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like three sentences you'll miss and you, you're

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_01]: not missing anything critical in the story.

[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just a brutal, brutal detail.

[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyways, I read The Last Refuge by Christina

[00:10:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Bacillieri, which we'll talk about in a little

[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_01]: bit.

[00:10:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's all I did this week.

[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I made the, I didn't make the twins.

[00:10:10] [SPEAKER_01]: We had movie night and watched The Village for

[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_01]: their first time.

[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we went and saw Deadpool.

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you did go.

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I covered my eyes and, and didn't look.

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to say too much because it's still

[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_01]: new in the world.

[00:10:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to give spoilers, but.

[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Ryan Reynolds has already spoiled a good book of

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_03]: stuff.

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I did love that without giving too much away,

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_01]: his whole family.

[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was very cute.

[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Super cute.

[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I did love a lot of the greatest showman references

[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_01]: that were there.

[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_03]: It was, I, I keep telling people, I was like,

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_03]: this movie was made for the millennials.

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah.

[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_03]: It was, it was for us.

[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_01]: The musicals, the musicals, the music, the

[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_01]: references.

[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Yep.

[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Then there were so many like high concept,

[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_03]: like references like that had so many layers.

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Like if you done, if you didn't know one

[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_03]: part of it, you, you, it would have gone

[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_03]: over your head, but like it wouldn't have

[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_03]: affected the plot.

[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, like when he, when he makes the

[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_03]: joke about, he says something about like

[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_03]: there's this many bones in the body except

[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_03]: when I'm watching.

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_03]: That's what I was going to say.

[00:11:13] [SPEAKER_03]: And like if you know, you know, but if

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_03]: you don't, it doesn't like affect your

[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_03]: enjoyment of the movie.

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:11:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I can say we took the twins and they

[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_01]: laughed through a lot of it, but there

[00:11:23] [SPEAKER_01]: were other jokes that like Josh and I

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_01]: being millennials were like, right?

[00:11:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_03]: I did, I did have a gripe with my

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_03]: audience and I think I feel like I

[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_03]: complain about the people, the people

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_03]: who are in my theater when I'm watching

[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Marvel movies all the time.

[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_03]: But like how do you hear

[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_03]: in syncs bye-bye-bye and not

[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_03]: start dancing and moving

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_03]: at all?

[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_03]: True.

[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_03]: At all.

[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Like I literally, I always sit in the

[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_03]: back so I saw everybody.

[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Not a movement, nothing.

[00:11:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Not even like a head bob, nothing.

[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sitting here like dancing

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_03]: in my seat and I'm like, who are

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_03]: you people?

[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm so offended.

[00:12:01] [SPEAKER_01]: We had to laugh.

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_01]: This is ingest.

[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_01]: This is a joke.

[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Please don't come at me or cancel

[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_01]: me.

[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not, I'm being silly.

[00:12:08] [SPEAKER_01]: We met my sister and my niece and

[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_01]: nephew for dinner and Josh was

[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_01]: in it's a town over from us.

[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_01]: And so Josh was like while we're

[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_01]: there he's like let's just go see

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Deadpool.

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Our theater where I took you in

[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_01]: my town has reclining seats

[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and alcoholic beverages

[00:12:26] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's wonderful.

[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_01]: There are two theaters in the town

[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_01]: over and the one that we went to is

[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_01]: the newest of all of the three.

[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_01]: When you walked in there was a line

[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_01]: of probably about 100 people waiting

[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_01]: for concessions but then there were

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_01]: no reclining seats.

[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_03]: How do you build a new theater without?

[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they have one theater

[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_01]: that has the reclining seats

[00:12:47] [SPEAKER_01]: but like the rest don't and I was

[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_01]: like you have got us in here with

[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_01]: the commoners.

[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I have to sit up with my feet

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_01]: on the ground.

[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_01]: What is that?

[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_01]: What kind of Povall are we?

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_01]: We had to go

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_01]: in target for me to get a blanket

[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_01]: because I was wearing like biker shorts

[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_01]: and I was like I can't go to movie theater

[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_01]: without like we're either going to have to

[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_01]: go home and go to the good theater

[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_01]: and he said I cannot believe I did this.

[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't realize they didn't have a recliner.

[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Never again.

[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_01]: So that it did make me laugh.

[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm obviously joking.

[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_01]: The theater is nice.

[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_01]: It was just I haven't been to a theater

[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_01]: in probably five years that wasn't the one

[00:13:28] [SPEAKER_01]: at home that has recliners.

[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_03]: It's just like when you're used to something

[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_03]: it's jarring to see a different

[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_03]: have a different experience.

[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_01]: And I never like I was a movie kid

[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_01]: as a teenager.

[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what me and my we'd play

[00:13:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Walmart bingo or we'd go see a movie.

[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what you did on a Friday night

[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and so like I never thought about how narrow

[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_01]: the aisle is in front of your seats

[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_01]: until I've gotten used to the ones

[00:13:53] [SPEAKER_01]: with the recliners and now it was like

[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't even fit here.

[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Where am I supposed to put my purse?

[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_01]: My God.

[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_01]: My blanket's too thick.

[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_01]: First world problem.

[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_01]: That's so funny.

[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's about what I did this week.

[00:14:10] [SPEAKER_01]: What did you do this week?

[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_03]: I went to Steamy LitCon in Anaheim

[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_03]: and it was glorious.

[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_03]: It was 165 authors and illustrators.

[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_03]: I think something like 2,000 attendees

[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_03]: plus staff and volunteers.

[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_03]: It was magic.

[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_03]: It was wonderful.

[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_03]: It was so it was so well run

[00:14:33] [SPEAKER_03]: especially for it being its like second year.

[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_03]: It's only its second year and it was

[00:14:37] [SPEAKER_03]: so well run.

[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_03]: They took in they sent out like a

[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_03]: feedback survey kind of thing last

[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_03]: year after the event and they really

[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_03]: took in a lot of like the

[00:14:48] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to say criticisms but like

[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_03]: the things that people said could be

[00:14:52] [SPEAKER_03]: improved upon.

[00:14:54] [SPEAKER_03]: So last year they didn't require a

[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_03]: mask, they did this year and they also

[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_03]: I spoke with somebody who they

[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_03]: so for everybody who was in attendance

[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_03]: you got a lanyard with the badge

[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_03]: and that was like your ticket.

[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_03]: That's how they identified you were allowed

[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_03]: to go into spaces because it was

[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_03]: a hotel so you can't block off

[00:15:13] [SPEAKER_03]: an entire section of a hotel.

[00:15:14] [SPEAKER_03]: So it was just certain rooms.

[00:15:16] [SPEAKER_03]: They had monitors and they looked for

[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_03]: your back.

[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what they do at Dragon Con

[00:15:19] [SPEAKER_01]: here and stuff.

[00:15:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_03]: So the color coded the lanyards.

[00:15:26] [SPEAKER_03]: So like the authors were purple

[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_03]: attendees were gray.

[00:15:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Assistance were green and then

[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_03]: there was a yellow one and I had

[00:15:34] [SPEAKER_03]: no idea what it was so somebody

[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_03]: came up to Lauren's table and I

[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_03]: asked them like hey what is yellow

[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_03]: mean and they're like oh it's

[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_03]: for accessibility.

[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Last year it was pink and people

[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_03]: I guess people said it blended in

[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_03]: too much with clothing so they made

[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_03]: it bright yellow this year.

[00:15:49] [SPEAKER_03]: That is so amazing.

[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_03]: They really took

[00:15:53] [SPEAKER_03]: in feedback and they made changes

[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_03]: to improve it even more

[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_03]: and I'm sure they're going to do it

[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_03]: again for the next year.

[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Y'all first listen to this.

[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_03]: You're supposed to get better.

[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah

[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_03]: it was so well run.

[00:16:10] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean it there were

[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_03]: it was insane because it was

[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_03]: so both days had signing

[00:16:16] [SPEAKER_03]: sessions and they were four hour

[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_03]: signing sessions.

[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_03]: So you had a really good chance

[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_03]: to go around and see a bunch of

[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_03]: authors which was awesome.

[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_03]: There were panels that is the one

[00:16:26] [SPEAKER_03]: thing that I was kind of like

[00:16:28] [SPEAKER_03]: because they had panels right

[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_03]: and so there were a total of

[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_03]: I want to say 16

[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_03]: panels but it

[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_03]: was like four per session

[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_03]: so you could only realistically

[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_03]: go to four panels

[00:16:43] [SPEAKER_03]: of all of the ones that they offered

[00:16:45] [SPEAKER_03]: and they were all amazing but I feel

[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_03]: like it would be nice to be able

[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_03]: to attend more of them.

[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_03]: I didn't go on an attendee

[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_03]: badge so it was a little bit

[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_03]: of a different experience for me so I

[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_03]: don't know exactly how other people felt

[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_03]: but looking at the schedule that

[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_03]: felt a little bit like eh to

[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_03]: me. If I'm paying this much

[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_03]: money I would like to be able to see more panels.

[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, but they did

[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_03]: they included three meals so

[00:17:11] [SPEAKER_03]: you got breakfast and lunch on the first

[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_03]: day and then a brunch on the

[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_03]: second day. There were two night

[00:17:17] [SPEAKER_03]: events there were some sponsors

[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_03]: so Love Underlined was there with

[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_03]: like a room and then Dreamscape

[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_03]: was there where I didn't get to go in

[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_03]: but everybody was talking about it you could go

[00:17:27] [SPEAKER_03]: in and record like a piece

[00:17:29] [SPEAKER_03]: of an audio book essentially

[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_03]: to kind of get the experience

[00:17:32] [SPEAKER_03]: and see what it's like. So I thought that was really cool.

[00:17:35] [SPEAKER_03]: They had quiet rooms

[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_03]: which is awesome for introverts

[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_03]: who need like a break. There was

[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_03]: a book check so if like you brought stuff

[00:17:43] [SPEAKER_03]: you could just check it into the book check and then

[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_03]: not have to carry everything around with you.

[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_03]: A lot of people stayed in the hotel so they just went

[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_03]: back and forth but I think the book check is

[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_03]: really helpful especially since the hotel was really

[00:17:53] [SPEAKER_03]: expensive as well it was the Marriott

[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_03]: so that was expensive along with

[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_03]: the ticket so it was nice to have this

[00:17:59] [SPEAKER_03]: other option to bring everything but

[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_03]: check it and not have to carry everything

[00:18:02] [SPEAKER_03]: if you weren't able to go back and forth.

[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_03]: And it was a lot of fun. I spent

[00:18:06] [SPEAKER_03]: a lot of time with Lauren. Lauren

[00:18:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Congessa and I was her assistant for the weekend

[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_03]: me, Lauren

[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_03]: and her husband had matching

[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_03]: shirts on the second day and they were

[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_03]: a hit. People

[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_03]: were upset that they couldn't

[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_03]: buy them and so I was like

[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_03]: okay let me email forever

[00:18:24] [SPEAKER_03]: and find out what we need to do the license

[00:18:26] [SPEAKER_03]: them because they've got their book covers on them

[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_03]: so we can't just sell them but

[00:18:30] [SPEAKER_03]: if there's a demand for it we'll look

[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_03]: into it you know so. Yeah for sure.

[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe that's to come

[00:18:36] [SPEAKER_03]: who knows I have to talk to

[00:18:38] [SPEAKER_03]: forever and see. So

[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_03]: that was pretty much

[00:18:42] [SPEAKER_03]: my big like weekend

[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_03]: extravaganza. I

[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_03]: will say I did overestimate

[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_03]: my abilities a bit because I thought

[00:18:50] [SPEAKER_03]: that I could drive home

[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_03]: on Sunday and then go to work

[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_03]: at 6.30 the next morning. You're crazy.

[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_03]: In my defense

[00:18:58] [SPEAKER_03]: I didn't know I was going to

[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_03]: be working at 6.30 when I signed up

[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_03]: to go to the event so

[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_03]: that was a thing that happened

[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_03]: but what made it worse

[00:19:08] [SPEAKER_03]: was that an

[00:19:09] [SPEAKER_03]: hour into our drive home on Sunday

[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_03]: my air conditioning

[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_01]: stopped working. Oh yeah that's right.

[00:19:17] [SPEAKER_03]: So then I drove

[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_03]: seven hours home with no air

[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_03]: conditioning through

[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Bakersfield and for anybody

[00:19:24] [SPEAKER_03]: who doesn't know anything about Bakersfield

[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_03]: it was 107 degrees

[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_03]: and zero shade

[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_03]: flatlands, farmlands

[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_03]: like country, sun

[00:19:33] [SPEAKER_03]: bearing down on you

[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_03]: with no air conditioning. I bet your kid was

[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_01]: so miserable. She fell

[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_01]: asleep. She's like I

[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_03]: can't even go with her then. She's like I can't

[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_03]: live through this. I'm asleep through this

[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_03]: so yeah we did make a stop

[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_03]: at one point I was like I

[00:19:49] [SPEAKER_03]: have to make a stop. We stopped

[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_03]: and I bought like one of those neck

[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_03]: fans from like a gas station

[00:19:55] [SPEAKER_03]: because I was like she needs something

[00:19:57] [SPEAKER_03]: like if not for me

[00:19:59] [SPEAKER_03]: I need her to have something.

[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_03]: I am quite literally dying

[00:20:03] [SPEAKER_03]: but I need her to have

[00:20:05] [SPEAKER_03]: something. So I don't know

[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_03]: how much it helped. She said that the air was

[00:20:09] [SPEAKER_03]: hot which makes sense

[00:20:11] [SPEAKER_03]: because it's not like an air conditioning

[00:20:13] [SPEAKER_03]: but hopefully it did something.

[00:20:15] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know. She was able to fall asleep so that says

[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_03]: she survived it. She survived, we survived

[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_03]: we carried her building

[00:20:20] [SPEAKER_03]: now I have to shell out more

[00:20:23] [SPEAKER_03]: money to repair my car

[00:20:25] [SPEAKER_03]: so things are going well

[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_03]: on the car front. There's a lot going

[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_03]: on with my car y'all. It's not fun

[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_03]: so yeah but overall

[00:20:33] [SPEAKER_03]: SteamlyCon was a success

[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_03]: I had a lot of fun. I met

[00:20:36] [SPEAKER_03]: a lot of authors

[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_03]: if you guys have been following us on Tiktok

[00:20:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I've been posting a couple

[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I posted like two so far

[00:20:44] [SPEAKER_03]: I decided that I was going

[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_03]: to ask authors who their fictional

[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_03]: boyfriend was and it was

[00:20:50] [SPEAKER_03]: so much fun. People were

[00:20:52] [SPEAKER_03]: really like wait

[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_03]: I need a minute and I was like I'll circle

[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_03]: there's 165 of y'all here

[00:20:58] [SPEAKER_03]: I will come back around.

[00:21:02] [SPEAKER_03]: I love that you're

[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_01]: extroverted enough to do that

[00:21:04] [SPEAKER_01]: because I would be terrified

[00:21:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I would be terrified

[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I would be sitting there thinking why don't you ask me to ask you

[00:21:11] [SPEAKER_01]: who your fictional boyfriend is

[00:21:12] [SPEAKER_03]: You know I think something

[00:21:14] [SPEAKER_03]: switches in my brain when

[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_03]: it's book people

[00:21:17] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know like if it was

[00:21:20] [SPEAKER_03]: strangers on the street I could never

[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_03]: but I'm in a

[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_03]: space where it's all book people

[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_03]: and I know

[00:21:28] [SPEAKER_03]: they're not going to judge me for this question

[00:21:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah

[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm southern. I don't mind

[00:21:34] [SPEAKER_01]: making a joke

[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_01]: with someone making a joke

[00:21:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm southern extroverted

[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_01]: but I'm

[00:21:42] [SPEAKER_01]: so introverted it's insane

[00:21:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I definitely

[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_03]: and Lawrence hasn't said it

[00:21:47] [SPEAKER_03]: best after we

[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_03]: finished day 2

[00:21:51] [SPEAKER_03]: signing on day 2 we were done for the day

[00:21:53] [SPEAKER_03]: everything was over he was like

[00:21:55] [SPEAKER_03]: I just need to go stare at a wall

[00:21:57] [SPEAKER_03]: for a while

[00:21:58] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah that's exactly

[00:22:01] [SPEAKER_03]: I need to recharge

[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_03]: so badly

[00:22:05] [SPEAKER_03]: but it was a lot of fun so follow us

[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_03]: on tiktok because I have many

[00:22:09] [SPEAKER_03]: more clips and I did not post them

[00:22:11] [SPEAKER_03]: all because it was like

[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_03]: something like 10 minutes long with all

[00:22:15] [SPEAKER_03]: of them and I was like people do not have

[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_03]: this attention span so we'll

[00:22:19] [SPEAKER_03]: get clips for

[00:22:21] [SPEAKER_03]: a while now. I will say

[00:22:23] [SPEAKER_03]: if you've never had Caroline

[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_03]: from forever explain

[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_03]: a book to you you're missing out

[00:22:30] I

[00:22:31] [SPEAKER_03]: spent like a few hours with her after

[00:22:34] [SPEAKER_03]: everything ended like because

[00:22:35] [SPEAKER_03]: my daughter was with Heather at a

[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_03]: wedding that was like out of town

[00:22:40] [SPEAKER_03]: while I was doing it. Heather was taking care

[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_03]: of my kid she was my babysitter so

[00:22:43] [SPEAKER_03]: day 1 she took her to Disneyland day 2

[00:22:46] [SPEAKER_03]: she had to go to a wedding

[00:22:47] [SPEAKER_03]: so my daughter was her plus one and so I was

[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_03]: like well I'm kind of just stuck at the hotel

[00:22:52] [SPEAKER_03]: until you guys come back

[00:22:53] [SPEAKER_03]: so I went and hung out with Caroline

[00:22:55] [SPEAKER_03]: in her room with her friend

[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_03]: and I don't know how we got onto it

[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_03]: but somehow

[00:23:01] [SPEAKER_03]: I ended up listening to

[00:23:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Caroline explaining the plot

[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_03]: to multiple Lisa Claipus

[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_03]: books and it was

[00:23:09] [SPEAKER_03]: so joyful it was so

[00:23:12] [SPEAKER_03]: funny she is

[00:23:13] [SPEAKER_03]: the best like I need Caroline

[00:23:16] [SPEAKER_03]: so I literally said this I need

[00:23:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Caroline I don't need to read anymore I just

[00:23:20] [SPEAKER_03]: need Caroline to summarize

[00:23:21] [SPEAKER_03]: a book plot for me because I got

[00:23:24] [SPEAKER_03]: it it's good it's great it's excellent

[00:23:27] [SPEAKER_03]: so shout out

[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_03]: to Caroline other than that

[00:23:30] [SPEAKER_03]: I have been reading The Last

[00:23:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Refuge it's been

[00:23:34] [SPEAKER_03]: a bit slow going because I am

[00:23:36] [SPEAKER_03]: recovering from Seam Lake Con

[00:23:37] [SPEAKER_03]: and recovering from

[00:23:40] [SPEAKER_03]: my new work schedule

[00:23:41] [SPEAKER_03]: which has been a change

[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_01]: this is the first week right

[00:23:45] [SPEAKER_01]: this is my first yeah so

[00:23:47] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think I said anything about it

[00:23:49] [SPEAKER_03]: on the podcast because last week

[00:23:52] [SPEAKER_03]: we had interviews but

[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_03]: essentially I am now on 410

[00:23:55] [SPEAKER_03]: so I work 4 days 10 hours

[00:23:58] [SPEAKER_03]: a day and I get one extra day

[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_03]: off during the week so

[00:24:01] [SPEAKER_03]: my schedule is now 6 30

[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_03]: a.m. to 5 30 p.m.

[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Monday Tuesday Wednesday Friday

[00:24:07] [SPEAKER_03]: and it's a lot of hours

[00:24:09] [SPEAKER_01]: they not let you work through your lunch if you want to

[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_01]: like you have to take a mandatory lunch

[00:24:13] [SPEAKER_03]: no it's mandatory

[00:24:15] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah so yeah

[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_03]: but I do get to telework on Tuesdays

[00:24:19] [SPEAKER_03]: so it is you know an 11 hour

[00:24:21] [SPEAKER_03]: day but I am at home in my jammies

[00:24:24] [SPEAKER_03]: so that's a little bit better

[00:24:25] [SPEAKER_03]: and I get Thursdays off

[00:24:27] [SPEAKER_03]: which is great for the

[00:24:29] [SPEAKER_03]: podcast because we can

[00:24:31] [SPEAKER_03]: record earlier Thursdays

[00:24:34] [SPEAKER_03]: so

[00:24:35] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean it's

[00:24:37] [SPEAKER_03]: it's just going to take some getting used to

[00:24:39] [SPEAKER_03]: I have not been having to work

[00:24:41] [SPEAKER_03]: this early in a very long time

[00:24:43] [SPEAKER_03]: I've been an 8 to 5 girlie

[00:24:45] [SPEAKER_03]: for many years now so

[00:24:47] [SPEAKER_03]: it's an adjustment but

[00:24:48] [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like it's going to be worth it to have

[00:24:51] [SPEAKER_03]: two days at home which we're

[00:24:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I think the first week is going to be rough

[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah first couple of weeks

[00:24:57] [SPEAKER_01]: might be rough yeah but

[00:24:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I told you when you were trying to decide

[00:25:01] [SPEAKER_01]: if you wanted to do it or not

[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_01]: it's not for me

[00:25:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't because of my aversion

[00:25:07] [SPEAKER_01]: to mornings and waking up

[00:25:08] [SPEAKER_01]: like I'm not reliable enough for that

[00:25:10] [SPEAKER_01]: but everyone I know who does

[00:25:13] [SPEAKER_01]: we call them 980s

[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_01]: here with the base that I work

[00:25:17] [SPEAKER_01]: with but yeah 410s

[00:25:19] [SPEAKER_01]: 980s they love it

[00:25:20] [SPEAKER_01]: they absolutely love it

[00:25:22] [SPEAKER_03]: I think we might have

[00:25:24] [SPEAKER_03]: I think our 980s

[00:25:26] [SPEAKER_03]: are you get one week

[00:25:28] [SPEAKER_03]: is like a regular schedule

[00:25:30] [SPEAKER_03]: and then the second week is

[00:25:33] [SPEAKER_03]: I think 9 hour

[00:25:34] [SPEAKER_03]: days and you get a day off

[00:25:36] [SPEAKER_03]: like it's weird and confusing

[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's here it's

[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_01]: you work no no wouldn't be

[00:25:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't be 980s I don't remember

[00:25:44] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know math is hard

[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I just know I've never done it

[00:25:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that I would ever agree to it

[00:25:50] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah for me

[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_03]: for me the tradeoff is being home

[00:25:53] [SPEAKER_03]: two days which were

[00:25:55] [SPEAKER_03]: was at risk of being taken away

[00:25:58] [SPEAKER_03]: from me and I was just

[00:25:59] [SPEAKER_03]: not ready for that

[00:26:01] [SPEAKER_03]: I did not

[00:26:03] [SPEAKER_03]: perhaps if I had had time to

[00:26:05] [SPEAKER_03]: mentally prepare for it maybe

[00:26:07] [SPEAKER_03]: but I had days

[00:26:09] [SPEAKER_03]: to decide and I

[00:26:11] [SPEAKER_03]: was not prepared to drop down to one day

[00:26:14] [SPEAKER_03]: a week at home so

[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_03]: this is what we're trying for the next 6 months

[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_03]: and we'll see how well I

[00:26:20] [SPEAKER_03]: process

[00:26:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I think you're gonna love it

[00:26:22] [SPEAKER_03]: and then the last thing

[00:26:24] [SPEAKER_03]: I wanna talk about is claim

[00:26:26] [SPEAKER_03]: to fame is back

[00:26:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I have talked about this on the podcast before

[00:26:30] [SPEAKER_03]: it is the show where

[00:26:32] [SPEAKER_03]: you have celebrity relatives

[00:26:34] [SPEAKER_03]: who are

[00:26:36] [SPEAKER_03]: basically in the house lying about

[00:26:38] [SPEAKER_03]: who they are so that they can win money

[00:26:40] [SPEAKER_03]: and keep and you know

[00:26:42] [SPEAKER_03]: claim their own fame

[00:26:44] [SPEAKER_03]: essentially right and so

[00:26:46] [SPEAKER_03]: this season

[00:26:47] [SPEAKER_03]: it the last

[00:26:49] [SPEAKER_03]: night they got down to 5

[00:26:51] [SPEAKER_03]: and I am so

[00:26:53] [SPEAKER_03]: upset because one of them

[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_03]: pisses me off so much

[00:26:57] [SPEAKER_03]: he's so irritating

[00:26:59] [SPEAKER_03]: he's so stupid

[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_03]: I want to punch a stupid face

[00:27:03] [SPEAKER_03]: every week literally

[00:27:05] [SPEAKER_03]: last week we were this close

[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_03]: to eliminating him this

[00:27:09] [SPEAKER_03]: close and somebody screwed the pooch

[00:27:11] [SPEAKER_03]: and and yeah

[00:27:13] [SPEAKER_03]: I was like I don't know

[00:27:15] [SPEAKER_03]: if I can take another week of him

[00:27:17] [SPEAKER_03]: but here we are and I've been texting

[00:27:19] [SPEAKER_03]: with Casey about it and she's like

[00:27:22] [SPEAKER_03]: I hate him

[00:27:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm like me too it's the worst

[00:27:25] [SPEAKER_03]: so who has

[00:27:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean claim to fame spoilers whoever

[00:27:29] [SPEAKER_03]: like is watching but

[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_03]: we have had Molly

[00:27:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Ringwald's cousin who I really liked

[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_03]: from the beginning and I was

[00:27:37] [SPEAKER_03]: really pissed off that she was eliminated

[00:27:39] [SPEAKER_03]: because she was back

[00:27:41] [SPEAKER_03]: stabbed like so badly

[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_03]: and and I was so upsetting because

[00:27:45] [SPEAKER_03]: like the person who like back stabbed

[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_03]: her was like I kind of liked him

[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_03]: up until that moment because

[00:27:51] [SPEAKER_03]: he was like pretty decent but then he helped

[00:27:53] [SPEAKER_03]: the other guy who I

[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_03]: did not like so I'm

[00:27:57] [SPEAKER_03]: very cranky about it and then we've

[00:27:59] [SPEAKER_03]: had Robin Roberts

[00:28:01] [SPEAKER_03]: niece I think I can't

[00:28:03] [SPEAKER_03]: remember the relations I just remember the people

[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah we had

[00:28:07] [SPEAKER_03]: John Crier's niece

[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Jamie Lee Curtis's nephew and he

[00:28:11] [SPEAKER_03]: was playing a pretty good game because he

[00:28:13] [SPEAKER_03]: looks Hispanic and I think he probably

[00:28:15] [SPEAKER_03]: is Hispanic and so he was

[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_03]: really playing up like

[00:28:19] [SPEAKER_03]: that aspect of his appearance

[00:28:21] [SPEAKER_03]: so that he could throw people off

[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_03]: and it was working so

[00:28:25] [SPEAKER_03]: well but then he was in the bottom

[00:28:27] [SPEAKER_03]: two and he was the guest and he didn't

[00:28:29] [SPEAKER_03]: know who anybody was so he got

[00:28:31] [SPEAKER_03]: sent home and

[00:28:33] [SPEAKER_03]: everybody like freaked out when they

[00:28:35] [SPEAKER_03]: saw it was Jamie Lee Curtis because like

[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_03]: clearly they look nothing alike

[00:28:38] [SPEAKER_03]: and I was sitting there like the whole time

[00:28:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm like the clue

[00:28:43] [SPEAKER_03]: there was a clue right before

[00:28:45] [SPEAKER_03]: his elimination

[00:28:46] [SPEAKER_03]: that hinted at Purricky Friday and I was

[00:28:49] [SPEAKER_03]: like that's what it is. The millennial women

[00:28:51] [SPEAKER_03]: will know it. That's what it is

[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_03]: because and they didn't

[00:28:54] [SPEAKER_03]: know this but we knew that he like gave

[00:28:57] [SPEAKER_03]: them a fake name to be more Hispanic

[00:28:59] [SPEAKER_03]: that he was playing

[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_03]: into like being more Hispanic so

[00:29:02] [SPEAKER_03]: obviously I was thinking

[00:29:04] [SPEAKER_03]: like it's definitely not a Hispanic

[00:29:06] [SPEAKER_03]: celebrity it has to be somebody

[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_03]: who would completely throw people

[00:29:10] [SPEAKER_03]: off and so when I saw that clue I was

[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_03]: like oh my god

[00:29:14] [SPEAKER_03]: I got it and I was so upset

[00:29:16] [SPEAKER_03]: that he left but it was good

[00:29:18] [SPEAKER_03]: it's fun. It's a lot of fun

[00:29:20] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm having a time at Casey and I

[00:29:22] [SPEAKER_03]: text weekly about it and it's so fun

[00:29:25] [SPEAKER_03]: it's like the best part

[00:29:26] [SPEAKER_03]: of the week honestly. So fun.

[00:29:29] [SPEAKER_01]: So they the contestants

[00:29:30] [SPEAKER_01]: are competing for money

[00:29:33] [SPEAKER_01]: for themselves or money for charity

[00:29:35] [SPEAKER_03]: for themselves because

[00:29:36] [SPEAKER_01]: oh my god. Yeah well so

[00:29:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I know that just because you're not

[00:29:40] [SPEAKER_01]: like just because you're related to a celebrity

[00:29:42] [SPEAKER_01]: doesn't mean they're going to bankroll you. Right.

[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_03]: I think for me

[00:29:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I think remember was it last season

[00:29:48] [SPEAKER_03]: where it was like somebody like somebody's

[00:29:51] [SPEAKER_03]: daughter and like you don't need

[00:29:53] [SPEAKER_03]: to be here. Yeah. You don't need the money

[00:29:55] [SPEAKER_03]: and it's not everybody's me.

[00:29:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah if it's somebody's cousin

[00:29:59] [SPEAKER_03]: maybe I can see

[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_03]: you know like that kind of thing. Like my niece

[00:30:02] [SPEAKER_01]: and my nephew if I

[00:30:04] [SPEAKER_01]: was a celebrity with millions of dollars

[00:30:06] [SPEAKER_01]: my nieces would know like want for nothing

[00:30:08] [SPEAKER_01]: they would have everything. Right. Right. Right.

[00:30:09] [SPEAKER_01]: They would have like bank accounts set up

[00:30:12] [SPEAKER_01]: and all of that like if I just had endless money

[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_01]: so like the niece is a nephew is kind of

[00:30:16] [SPEAKER_03]: it hurts. Yeah. Tweaks me a little

[00:30:18] [SPEAKER_01]: bit but you know

[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_01]: people are different. It's for entertainment.

[00:30:21] [SPEAKER_03]: It is also for entertainment. I just

[00:30:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I guess it's more the mentality I can't believe this was greenlit that way.

[00:30:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:30:28] [SPEAKER_01]: With like and I can't believe that people

[00:30:30] [SPEAKER_01]: haven't like gotten loud about like really

[00:30:32] [SPEAKER_03]: you know. I think

[00:30:34] [SPEAKER_03]: part of it is also that

[00:30:35] [SPEAKER_03]: they are they are kind of

[00:30:38] [SPEAKER_03]: marketing it a little bit to be

[00:30:40] [SPEAKER_03]: like you're going to stake

[00:30:42] [SPEAKER_03]: your own claim to fame and get out from

[00:30:44] [SPEAKER_03]: your celebrity relative's shadow like

[00:30:46] [SPEAKER_03]: you're going to make your own name for yourself

[00:30:47] [SPEAKER_03]: and some of them do have like

[00:30:49] [SPEAKER_03]: alternate like actual

[00:30:51] [SPEAKER_03]: talents and stuff. Okay.

[00:30:53] [SPEAKER_03]: So that's cool. That is cool but I feel

[00:30:56] [SPEAKER_03]: like if they're going to do that

[00:30:57] [SPEAKER_03]: they need to lean into that

[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_03]: more. Yeah.

[00:31:01] [SPEAKER_03]: It's not like it's not like we're really

[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_03]: seeing them as what

[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_03]: they could be on their own

[00:31:07] [SPEAKER_01]: as a celebrity. Yeah. It would be cool if it was like

[00:31:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to get out from under their shadow

[00:31:11] [SPEAKER_01]: look at my talent. Look what I can do but

[00:31:13] [SPEAKER_01]: it's always them looming over me when

[00:31:15] [SPEAKER_03]: I could be over here. I could be

[00:31:17] [SPEAKER_01]: loving my family but doing this. Like

[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_03]: it's hosted by Kevin

[00:31:21] [SPEAKER_03]: and Franklin Jonas and obviously

[00:31:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Kevin's part of the Jonas Brothers but

[00:31:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Franklin Jonas Jonas.

[00:31:27] [SPEAKER_03]: He's the bonus Jonas right and so like

[00:31:29] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean obviously that's a good choice because

[00:31:31] [SPEAKER_03]: then you can see like you have somebody who's

[00:31:33] [SPEAKER_03]: actually in their celebrity relative shadows

[00:31:35] [SPEAKER_03]: kind of thing and so like if it was

[00:31:37] [SPEAKER_03]: like that where it's like oh maybe Frankie

[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_03]: also seems but he can't

[00:31:41] [SPEAKER_03]: break out because he's

[00:31:43] [SPEAKER_03]: in the shadow of his brother, you know

[00:31:45] [SPEAKER_03]: then that that kind of

[00:31:47] [SPEAKER_03]: thing but they don't really play into

[00:31:49] [SPEAKER_03]: that very much. There's like

[00:31:51] [SPEAKER_03]: one episode where they do like a talent

[00:31:53] [SPEAKER_03]: show but other than that there's

[00:31:55] [SPEAKER_03]: nothing that's like really playing

[00:31:57] [SPEAKER_03]: into that the

[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_03]: contestants like becoming

[00:32:01] [SPEAKER_03]: their own version of a celebrity

[00:32:03] [SPEAKER_03]: kind of thing. Yeah.

[00:32:06] [SPEAKER_03]: But it is what it is. It's a lot of fun.

[00:32:08] [SPEAKER_03]: It's very entertaining. I enjoy

[00:32:09] [SPEAKER_03]: it. I'm sure it is. I'll have to watch it one day.

[00:32:13] [SPEAKER_03]: It's fun so and it streams on like

[00:32:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Hulu I think so if you're bored

[00:32:17] [SPEAKER_03]: one day you can just yeah

[00:32:19] [SPEAKER_03]: click it on. Yeah that's been

[00:32:21] [SPEAKER_03]: what I've been up to pretty much. Very nice.

[00:32:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Alright

[00:32:29] [SPEAKER_01]: who is your fictional boyfriend

[00:32:32] [SPEAKER_01]: of the week? Have you thought

[00:32:34] [SPEAKER_03]: of anybody? You know I'm

[00:32:36] [SPEAKER_03]: gonna go with like

[00:32:37] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna say... Bring me a bonus Jonas

[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna say

[00:32:42] [SPEAKER_03]: fictional bestie but it's

[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_03]: not a fictional person and it's not

[00:32:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Frankie the bonus Jonas

[00:32:47] [SPEAKER_03]: it is Danny

[00:32:49] [SPEAKER_03]: from Claim to Fame he is

[00:32:51] [SPEAKER_03]: so funny on the show

[00:32:53] [SPEAKER_03]: he is like a sweet baby angel

[00:32:55] [SPEAKER_03]: you know who he is. I think I know

[00:32:57] [SPEAKER_03]: who he is. I think so. Casey and

[00:32:59] [SPEAKER_03]: I have thoughts

[00:33:01] [SPEAKER_03]: but nothing conclusive

[00:33:03] [SPEAKER_03]: who do you think he is? Okay hold on

[00:33:05] [SPEAKER_03]: let me pull up my notes really quick

[00:33:07] [SPEAKER_03]: because

[00:33:09] [SPEAKER_03]: there are clues

[00:33:11] [SPEAKER_03]: that I feel like if you

[00:33:13] [SPEAKER_03]: had them you might okay

[00:33:15] [SPEAKER_03]: so they do this thing at the beginning

[00:33:17] [SPEAKER_03]: of the show where

[00:33:19] [SPEAKER_03]: the very first episode they give

[00:33:21] [SPEAKER_03]: two truths and a lie for each person

[00:33:24] [SPEAKER_03]: they say they're two truths and a lie

[00:33:25] [SPEAKER_03]: they have to tell you how they're related

[00:33:27] [SPEAKER_03]: what they're best known for

[00:33:29] [SPEAKER_03]: and then like their biggest award

[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_03]: so Danny's two truths and a lie

[00:33:33] [SPEAKER_03]: is that his celebrity relative is his uncle

[00:33:36] [SPEAKER_03]: his celebrity relative

[00:33:37] [SPEAKER_03]: is best known for being a pro

[00:33:39] [SPEAKER_03]: wrestler and

[00:33:41] [SPEAKER_03]: his celebrity relative's biggest award

[00:33:43] [SPEAKER_03]: is a Grammy so

[00:33:45] [SPEAKER_03]: two of those are true and one of them is

[00:33:47] [SPEAKER_03]: a lie. People are thinking

[00:33:49] [SPEAKER_03]: in the show they're like pro wrestlers

[00:33:51] [SPEAKER_03]: can't have Grammys and I'm over here

[00:33:53] [SPEAKER_03]: like the rock was in Moana

[00:33:55] [SPEAKER_03]: they could theoretically

[00:33:57] [SPEAKER_03]: have a Grammy if he

[00:33:59] [SPEAKER_03]: the only Grammy that Moana won was for

[00:34:01] [SPEAKER_03]: something else so it's obviously not

[00:34:03] [SPEAKER_03]: the rock but it's

[00:34:05] [SPEAKER_01]: a lie can the lie be

[00:34:07] [SPEAKER_01]: it's my uncle when it's my aunt

[00:34:08] [SPEAKER_01]: that's diabolical

[00:34:10] [SPEAKER_03]: so it doesn't matter

[00:34:13] [SPEAKER_03]: you can pick whichever of those three

[00:34:15] [SPEAKER_03]: you want to be the lie

[00:34:17] [SPEAKER_03]: so it could be his aunt

[00:34:19] [SPEAKER_03]: who is a pro wrestler and has won a Grammy

[00:34:21] [SPEAKER_03]: or it could be his uncle who's an actor

[00:34:23] [SPEAKER_03]: who's won a Grammy or it could be

[00:34:25] [SPEAKER_03]: his uncle who's a pro wrestler who has won

[00:34:27] [SPEAKER_03]: a Tony I don't know

[00:34:28] [SPEAKER_01]: menacing menacing it's it's so you don't

[00:34:31] [SPEAKER_03]: know which is which yeah but

[00:34:33] [SPEAKER_03]: if we go with the most

[00:34:35] [SPEAKER_03]: narrow option that

[00:34:37] [SPEAKER_03]: throws the people off the most

[00:34:38] [SPEAKER_03]: which would be pro wrestler and Grammy right

[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_03]: that throws people off bad bunny

[00:34:43] [SPEAKER_03]: was a pro wrestler and has won a Grammy

[00:34:45] [SPEAKER_03]: and the most

[00:34:47] [SPEAKER_03]: recent clue that we got on

[00:34:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Danny is that

[00:34:51] [SPEAKER_03]: something to do with J.Lo and there

[00:34:53] [SPEAKER_03]: is a song that they did

[00:34:55] [SPEAKER_03]: together so it's

[00:34:56] [SPEAKER_03]: that is that is that is our

[00:34:59] [SPEAKER_03]: current guess we don't know

[00:35:01] [SPEAKER_03]: for sure but that is where we're at

[00:35:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I am far too idiotic

[00:35:05] [SPEAKER_01]: to ever be able to come up with a guess

[00:35:07] [SPEAKER_01]: because you would never have pulled the name

[00:35:09] [SPEAKER_01]: bad bunny out of me because

[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_01]: until you said it I forgot

[00:35:13] [SPEAKER_01]: that person existed I listen

[00:35:15] [SPEAKER_03]: I went to Google and said

[00:35:17] [SPEAKER_03]: what pro wrestlers have won a Grammy

[00:35:19] [SPEAKER_01]: okay

[00:35:20] [SPEAKER_01]: alright that makes me feel better because

[00:35:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I did not know that off the top of my head

[00:35:25] [SPEAKER_03]: that I would think I literally Googled

[00:35:27] [SPEAKER_03]: are there any pro wrestlers

[00:35:29] [SPEAKER_03]: who have won a Grammy

[00:35:30] [SPEAKER_03]: and bad bunny popped up

[00:35:32] [SPEAKER_03]: there's also like a female pro wrestler

[00:35:35] [SPEAKER_03]: apparently who has won a Grammy

[00:35:36] [SPEAKER_03]: but like she's Japanese and he looks

[00:35:39] [SPEAKER_03]: like he could not be Japanese

[00:35:41] [SPEAKER_03]: like in any stretch of the imagination

[00:35:43] [SPEAKER_01]: but where then which one would be

[00:35:45] [SPEAKER_01]: the lie because I'm gonna be his cousin

[00:35:47] [SPEAKER_03]: it could be his cousin he looks

[00:35:49] [SPEAKER_03]: like they could be the same age

[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_03]: like around the same age brother or something

[00:35:53] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah yeah they look like they could be

[00:35:55] [SPEAKER_03]: around the same age so I don't know

[00:35:57] [SPEAKER_03]: there's one of them looks like one

[00:35:59] [SPEAKER_03]: of them I swear to God the moment

[00:36:01] [SPEAKER_03]: they showed him on screen I was like that man

[00:36:03] [SPEAKER_03]: is an ML he looks like an ML

[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Steven or Robbie ML I don't know

[00:36:07] [SPEAKER_03]: but he looks like an ML

[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think he is because

[00:36:11] [SPEAKER_03]: of the clues that we've gotten

[00:36:14] [SPEAKER_03]: but man he really looks like

[00:36:16] [SPEAKER_01]: it would be funny though if he was

[00:36:17] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah and then

[00:36:19] [SPEAKER_01]: or if his lie was like

[00:36:21] [SPEAKER_01]: he was on green arrow or he was on arrow

[00:36:23] [SPEAKER_01]: he played the green arrow

[00:36:25] [SPEAKER_03]: oh my God but yeah so

[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Danny from claim to fame

[00:36:29] [SPEAKER_03]: he is a sweet baby angel

[00:36:31] [SPEAKER_03]: and I want him to win the whole thing

[00:36:35] [SPEAKER_01]: love it

[00:36:35] [SPEAKER_01]: alright tell me yours

[00:36:37] [SPEAKER_01]: oh it's Kingfisher from Quicksilver

[00:36:40] [SPEAKER_01]: he is

[00:36:41] [SPEAKER_01]: he is mean

[00:36:42] [SPEAKER_01]: he has shadow magic

[00:36:43] [SPEAKER_01]: he is broody and tortured with a tragic

[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_01]: history need I say

[00:36:48] [SPEAKER_01]: anymore about man being up my alley

[00:36:51] [SPEAKER_03]: stop being so mean to me or I'm falling

[00:36:53] [SPEAKER_03]: in love with you

[00:36:53] [SPEAKER_01]: literally I did a tech talk with that sound

[00:36:56] [SPEAKER_01]: oh my God the cruel prince because

[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Carden Greenbrier is so mean to her

[00:37:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and I live for it I love it

[00:37:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I love it and then once

[00:37:04] [SPEAKER_01]: he realizes he's not going to be mean to her

[00:37:07] [SPEAKER_01]: anymore eat it up oh I love it

[00:37:08] [SPEAKER_01]: good times good times

[00:37:10] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah Kingfisher from

[00:37:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Quicksilver is my

[00:37:14] [SPEAKER_01]: man this week and obviously

[00:37:16] [SPEAKER_01]: or Consultair of course

[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_01]: he's in such a brutal position right now

[00:37:23] [SPEAKER_01]: so is Aideen my baby

[00:37:25] [SPEAKER_01]: again I am not a safe

[00:37:27] [SPEAKER_01]: space for this lander

[00:37:28] [SPEAKER_01]: not

[00:37:30] [SPEAKER_01]: andorian shadow hands

[00:37:32] [SPEAKER_01]: heavy yard give me

[00:37:34] [SPEAKER_01]: that I want to just like sit on a couch

[00:37:36] [SPEAKER_01]: and watch movies with Dorian

[00:37:37] [SPEAKER_01]: the best friends love

[00:37:39] [SPEAKER_01]: it baby angels

[00:37:42] [SPEAKER_03]: anyways good times

[00:37:43] [SPEAKER_01]: that's my paragraph of

[00:37:45] [SPEAKER_01]: fictional man this week

[00:37:47] [SPEAKER_03]: fair

[00:37:49] [SPEAKER_01]: smooth

[00:37:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I have

[00:37:53] [SPEAKER_01]: some really exciting stuff to talk about

[00:37:55] [SPEAKER_01]: they haven't gotten to talk about on the podcast

[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_01]: the first draft of my book is done

[00:37:59] [SPEAKER_01]: so I can tell

[00:38:01] [SPEAKER_01]: the listeners about it

[00:38:03] [SPEAKER_01]: if you haven't seen it on my social media

[00:38:04] [SPEAKER_01]: so um working title right now

[00:38:07] [SPEAKER_01]: that could change I guess is called

[00:38:09] [SPEAKER_01]: the living in the dead it follows

[00:38:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Abby Gale that name came to me in the dream

[00:38:13] [SPEAKER_01]: where I first met her she's always been

[00:38:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Abby Gale she's always going to be

[00:38:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Abby Gale she is born a ghost

[00:38:19] [SPEAKER_01]: she's born dead to a mother

[00:38:21] [SPEAKER_01]: who is a ghost who's been a ghost

[00:38:23] [SPEAKER_01]: since the 1700s how's that

[00:38:25] [SPEAKER_01]: happen nobody knows and her mom

[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_01]: is terrified that something

[00:38:29] [SPEAKER_01]: like something's going to happen to you

[00:38:30] [SPEAKER_01]: you're not supposed to exist so her mom is very

[00:38:32] [SPEAKER_01]: controlling because Abby's aging

[00:38:34] [SPEAKER_01]: and that's also not supposed to happen

[00:38:36] [SPEAKER_01]: so she's a ghost that goes from

[00:38:38] [SPEAKER_01]: newborn to toddler to teenager

[00:38:40] [SPEAKER_01]: she ends up in her 30s

[00:38:43] [SPEAKER_01]: haunting a manor

[00:38:45] [SPEAKER_01]: in the south and

[00:38:46] [SPEAKER_01]: this dude starts showing up

[00:38:48] [SPEAKER_01]: and he's really creepy and freaks her out

[00:38:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and she's like what is going on

[00:38:52] [SPEAKER_01]: turns out that he is

[00:38:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Raiden Pengraves who is

[00:38:57] [SPEAKER_01]: a member of the brotherhood

[00:38:59] [SPEAKER_01]: of the reapers and

[00:39:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Abby has finally unfortunately landed on

[00:39:03] [SPEAKER_01]: their radar and the brotherhood of the reapers

[00:39:05] [SPEAKER_01]: don't want an aging

[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_01]: ghost to live because it's an abomination

[00:39:09] [SPEAKER_01]: to the natural order of things

[00:39:11] [SPEAKER_01]: but it's me

[00:39:14] [SPEAKER_01]: so it's

[00:39:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Raiden really that bad when I literally

[00:39:17] [SPEAKER_01]: googled how do you describe

[00:39:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Tom Hiddleston's face

[00:39:21] [SPEAKER_01]: when describing him so

[00:39:23] [SPEAKER_01]: anyways lots

[00:39:25] [SPEAKER_01]: of things happen

[00:39:26] [SPEAKER_01]: he ends up kidnapping

[00:39:28] [SPEAKER_01]: he coerces Abby

[00:39:30] [SPEAKER_01]: to go on this journey with him

[00:39:32] [SPEAKER_01]: she doesn't know if he's going to turn her

[00:39:35] [SPEAKER_01]: into the brotherhood or if he's trying to help her

[00:39:37] [SPEAKER_01]: and he gives kind of mixed signals on that

[00:39:39] [SPEAKER_01]: so she is not sure if he's leading her

[00:39:41] [SPEAKER_01]: to her death or her salvation

[00:39:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I've not touched it

[00:39:45] [SPEAKER_01]: in about a month because they say

[00:39:46] [SPEAKER_01]: once you finish your draft

[00:39:48] [SPEAKER_01]: take a break from it, get out of the headspace

[00:39:50] [SPEAKER_01]: of it and then start but I'm very close to

[00:39:53] [SPEAKER_01]: it's time to edit like I'm thinking maybe this weekend

[00:39:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll be like

[00:39:56] [SPEAKER_01]: officially editing

[00:39:58] [SPEAKER_01]: the living and the dead

[00:40:01] [SPEAKER_01]: you guys

[00:40:01] [SPEAKER_03]: so exciting

[00:40:04] [SPEAKER_03]: that sound means we have an intruder

[00:40:11] [SPEAKER_03]: alert

[00:40:11] [SPEAKER_03]: this is really so exciting

[00:40:14] [SPEAKER_03]: we have a newcomer to the podcast

[00:40:16] [SPEAKER_03]: and it is Christina Bacillari

[00:40:18] [SPEAKER_03]: author of The Last Refuge

[00:40:20] [SPEAKER_03]: look at this cover

[00:40:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I've written about this cover

[00:40:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I've already got stuff written down about this cover

[00:40:26] [SPEAKER_01]: but we're going to start

[00:40:28] [SPEAKER_03]: we're going to start first with

[00:40:30] [SPEAKER_03]: a quick elevator pitch for the book

[00:40:32] [SPEAKER_03]: for anybody who hasn't heard about it

[00:40:34] [SPEAKER_00]: can you give us that? Sure it's about

[00:40:36] [SPEAKER_00]: 16 year old Cura Van Dyer who's committed

[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_00]: the worst possible infraction

[00:40:40] [SPEAKER_00]: when she's trespassed over the border into

[00:40:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Eddabon which is the last refuge

[00:40:44] [SPEAKER_00]: for magic on her planet of Eterra

[00:40:46] [SPEAKER_00]: and now to conceal her crime from

[00:40:48] [SPEAKER_00]: the all-powerful ruling board

[00:40:49] [SPEAKER_00]: and the sites warden she'll have to use her strange new powers

[00:40:52] [SPEAKER_00]: to battle for her freedom or die trying

[00:40:55] [SPEAKER_00]: that was so good

[00:40:56] [SPEAKER_01]: you are such a professional

[00:40:57] [SPEAKER_00]: oh my god

[00:41:00] [SPEAKER_01]: we've had like authors with like 15 books

[00:41:03] [SPEAKER_01]: who were like uh

[00:41:04] [SPEAKER_03]: what did I write?

[00:41:06] [SPEAKER_03]: that would be me too

[00:41:07] [SPEAKER_03]: I would stutter over everything

[00:41:09] [SPEAKER_03]: do I know words? That was so good

[00:41:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's the practice because

[00:41:14] [SPEAKER_00]: I think the first time you do it it's like

[00:41:16] [SPEAKER_00]: it's about a girl who likes magic

[00:41:20] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah

[00:41:20] [SPEAKER_01]: so

[00:41:22] [SPEAKER_03]: she is on a train

[00:41:24] [SPEAKER_03]: and then

[00:41:26] [SPEAKER_03]: something about her fight

[00:41:27] [SPEAKER_00]: she has to fight

[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_00]: there's like all these magical creatures

[00:41:32] [SPEAKER_00]: and you

[00:41:34] so

[00:41:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I saw someone on Goodreads describe

[00:41:38] [SPEAKER_01]: this book as the hunger games

[00:41:40] [SPEAKER_01]: meets onward

[00:41:42] [SPEAKER_01]: and I was like that is so

[00:41:44] [SPEAKER_01]: perfect

[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and I can't think of a better combo

[00:41:48] [SPEAKER_01]: to tell people who love

[00:41:50] [SPEAKER_01]: either or both of them that they'll love this

[00:41:52] [SPEAKER_00]: that's the biggest compliment

[00:41:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I think I've ever received

[00:41:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad you took it that way

[00:41:58] [SPEAKER_01]: because some people would be like isn't it on a cartoon

[00:41:59] [SPEAKER_01]: that is excellent

[00:42:01] [SPEAKER_00]: that is such a good comp

[00:42:03] [SPEAKER_00]: very compelling

[00:42:04] [SPEAKER_00]: honestly too I live and breathe

[00:42:08] [SPEAKER_00]: if we're going to go back and

[00:42:09] [SPEAKER_00]: animate and you wash

[00:42:10] [SPEAKER_00]: when you talk about everything that goes

[00:42:14] [SPEAKER_00]: into a

[00:42:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know

[00:42:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying that detail

[00:42:18] [SPEAKER_00]: that goes into all type onward

[00:42:21] [SPEAKER_00]: and

[00:42:22] [SPEAKER_00]: no

[00:42:23] [SPEAKER_00]: the heart of onward

[00:42:27] [SPEAKER_01]: is there

[00:42:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how you did it

[00:42:31] [SPEAKER_01]: because I sometimes struggle with

[00:42:32] [SPEAKER_01]: fantasy that set in what looks like

[00:42:35] [SPEAKER_01]: a real world

[00:42:35] [SPEAKER_01]: so she goes from this

[00:42:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I pictured what are the tumbleweeds

[00:42:41] [SPEAKER_01]: going through a city

[00:42:42] [SPEAKER_01]: like an abandoned

[00:42:44] [SPEAKER_01]: city where she's like

[00:42:45] [SPEAKER_01]: trying to navigate through

[00:42:47] [SPEAKER_01]: but then she ends up at this

[00:42:49] [SPEAKER_01]: and I don't want to give away too much but it's like the complete opposite

[00:42:52] [SPEAKER_01]: and

[00:42:53] [SPEAKER_01]: how do you do that

[00:42:55] [SPEAKER_01]: how do you marry these two settings so well

[00:42:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I really think it's

[00:42:59] [SPEAKER_00]: a love letter back to what I loved growing up

[00:43:02] [SPEAKER_00]: and I was like why can't I marry these ideas

[00:43:04] [SPEAKER_00]: of dystopian

[00:43:05] [SPEAKER_00]: and fantasy

[00:43:06] [SPEAKER_00]: that exact idea of when you talk about

[00:43:08] [SPEAKER_00]: like the harsh

[00:43:10] [SPEAKER_00]: city and that environment

[00:43:12] [SPEAKER_00]: with that fantastical

[00:43:14] [SPEAKER_00]: you're living in a very

[00:43:15] [SPEAKER_00]: more kind of sci-fi

[00:43:17] [SPEAKER_00]: almost like I do love the hunger games

[00:43:20] [SPEAKER_00]: esque of that technology

[00:43:22] [SPEAKER_00]: that very sterile but then you go to

[00:43:24] [SPEAKER_00]: this place that's almost like

[00:43:26] [SPEAKER_00]: it's a festival ground

[00:43:27] [SPEAKER_00]: you're going to well it's lush

[00:43:29] [SPEAKER_00]: that's where magic is

[00:43:31] [SPEAKER_00]: that's where the life is so I really wanted to marry these two ideas

[00:43:34] [SPEAKER_00]: and it's almost to the inner

[00:43:36] [SPEAKER_00]: journey kind of like that

[00:43:38] [SPEAKER_00]: self-discovery like you go from this very

[00:43:40] [SPEAKER_00]: like survival city

[00:43:42] [SPEAKER_00]: regimented to the fantastical

[00:43:44] [SPEAKER_00]: so that's really kind of where I came up with the two

[00:43:46] [SPEAKER_00]: concepts of her starting

[00:43:48] [SPEAKER_00]: out in that city like survival

[00:43:50] [SPEAKER_00]: environment and then going to the fantastical

[00:43:52] [SPEAKER_00]: going to the festival grounds

[00:43:54] [SPEAKER_01]: you did such a beautiful job of it

[00:43:56] [SPEAKER_03]: it's so fun to see

[00:43:57] [SPEAKER_03]: and it's such a juxtaposition for us

[00:44:00] [SPEAKER_03]: to see like and we kind of

[00:44:02] [SPEAKER_03]: get to be in her shoes

[00:44:04] [SPEAKER_03]: because we start out knowing

[00:44:06] [SPEAKER_03]: only what she knows and then when she

[00:44:08] [SPEAKER_03]: moves into the new world it's like

[00:44:10] [SPEAKER_03]: oh another door has opened

[00:44:11] [SPEAKER_03]: let me walk through that

[00:44:14] [SPEAKER_03]: it's so well done

[00:44:16] [SPEAKER_03]: so what

[00:44:18] [SPEAKER_03]: prompted you to write the

[00:44:20] [SPEAKER_03]: story, the specific story where did it come from

[00:44:22] [SPEAKER_03]: like where did the idea come from

[00:44:24] [SPEAKER_00]: so I got

[00:44:26] [SPEAKER_00]: the idea it came to me in a dream

[00:44:27] [SPEAKER_00]: so I've always felt really lucky

[00:44:30] [SPEAKER_00]: cause like I have very vivid dreams

[00:44:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's my imaginary

[00:44:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm with you

[00:44:33] [SPEAKER_00]: I ask people like you don't find your dreams

[00:44:37] [SPEAKER_00]: and it's like no I write emails

[00:44:38] [SPEAKER_00]: like what do you like no

[00:44:40] [SPEAKER_01]: my husband's like I don't have dreams

[00:44:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like that's so sad

[00:44:45] [SPEAKER_00]: dreams are magic

[00:44:46] [SPEAKER_00]: and again that's where I process a lot

[00:44:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and during the time that I had the dream

[00:44:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I was going through a lot in my personal life

[00:44:52] [SPEAKER_00]: my grandma who has influenced

[00:44:54] [SPEAKER_00]: so much of my storytelling

[00:44:55] [SPEAKER_00]: her cancer had come back

[00:44:57] [SPEAKER_00]: and I think I was going through just a really hard time

[00:45:00] [SPEAKER_00]: and I like to think of the idea that

[00:45:01] [SPEAKER_00]: magic finds us during the darkest

[00:45:03] [SPEAKER_00]: moments and so I had

[00:45:05] [SPEAKER_00]: this dream where I saw this line of

[00:45:07] [SPEAKER_00]: human beings and they were crossing

[00:45:09] [SPEAKER_00]: over this threshold and every time they

[00:45:11] [SPEAKER_00]: crossed over they turned into something

[00:45:13] [SPEAKER_00]: different and I was like over curious

[00:45:15] [SPEAKER_00]: shoulder and I saw her transform

[00:45:16] [SPEAKER_00]: and I was like I woke up and I was like I have to write

[00:45:19] [SPEAKER_00]: this and I think it helped me

[00:45:21] [SPEAKER_00]: work through like I think

[00:45:22] [SPEAKER_00]: looking back now it's funny how you see all the bread

[00:45:25] [SPEAKER_00]: crumbs it helped me through one of the hardest

[00:45:27] [SPEAKER_00]: times in my life because I was able to write

[00:45:29] [SPEAKER_00]: during that time

[00:45:31] [SPEAKER_00]: and I dedicated the book to my grandma

[00:45:33] [SPEAKER_00]: because I would not be a storyteller

[00:45:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I would not have the courage to tell stories without her

[00:45:37] [SPEAKER_00]: so I think it's a story that we

[00:45:39] [SPEAKER_00]: would both enjoy and it always cracks me up

[00:45:41] [SPEAKER_00]: because she's the one who got me into like Outlander

[00:45:43] [SPEAKER_00]: and Game of Thrones like I'd go to her house

[00:45:45] [SPEAKER_00]: and we eat lunch together every Friday and she'd be like

[00:45:47] [SPEAKER_00]: are you watching like Outlander

[00:45:50] [SPEAKER_00]: and like what's that so she

[00:45:51] [SPEAKER_00]: really got me I mean from

[00:45:53] [SPEAKER_00]: a young age though she had always

[00:45:55] [SPEAKER_00]: loved storytelling and we were very loud

[00:45:57] [SPEAKER_00]: and boisterous and I could always be

[00:45:59] [SPEAKER_00]: myself in her kitchen so I do think

[00:46:01] [SPEAKER_00]: it's a combination of the storytelling

[00:46:03] [SPEAKER_00]: element where I came from my dreams

[00:46:05] [SPEAKER_00]: and it just found me at the right moment

[00:46:07] [SPEAKER_00]: when I needed this story so

[00:46:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I love that. Oh my god

[00:46:11] [SPEAKER_01]: it's like you're reading my diary

[00:46:14] [SPEAKER_01]: like I'm only in like

[00:46:15] [SPEAKER_01]: drafting right now but

[00:46:17] [SPEAKER_01]: my book came to me in a dream

[00:46:19] [SPEAKER_01]: and it was like very vivid yes and it was

[00:46:21] [SPEAKER_01]: like it was just my character and she

[00:46:23] [SPEAKER_01]: was my main character and she was like I'm here

[00:46:25] [SPEAKER_01]: this like you got to tell my stuff

[00:46:27] [SPEAKER_01]: and this is how it's going to be and she's

[00:46:29] [SPEAKER_01]: guided me ever since the craziest thing

[00:46:31] [SPEAKER_00]: well congratulations. 96000

[00:46:34] [SPEAKER_03]: words later

[00:46:36] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah that's so exciting

[00:46:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean and I think it really

[00:46:40] [SPEAKER_00]: is I do think dreams there's

[00:46:42] [SPEAKER_00]: something so special about them because

[00:46:44] [SPEAKER_00]: I think if we're denying ourselves

[00:46:46] [SPEAKER_00]: something in reality

[00:46:47] [SPEAKER_00]: we go to sleep and I do think those dreams

[00:46:50] [SPEAKER_00]: find us and you cannot run from

[00:46:51] [SPEAKER_00]: what your subconscious is telling you

[00:46:53] [SPEAKER_00]: like how many times I like I can't

[00:46:55] [SPEAKER_00]: write a story like who am I and then it's like

[00:46:57] [SPEAKER_00]: you are writing the story like

[00:46:59] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah we're going to haunt you until it's

[00:47:01] [SPEAKER_00]: like exactly yeah a story needs

[00:47:03] [SPEAKER_01]: to be told yes you will write this so

[00:47:06] [SPEAKER_01]: it's so funny that you said

[00:47:08] [SPEAKER_01]: that I mean it's not funny but it's

[00:47:09] [SPEAKER_01]: interesting that you talked about

[00:47:11] [SPEAKER_01]: being in the darkest point of your life

[00:47:13] [SPEAKER_01]: and or really dark point and writing

[00:47:15] [SPEAKER_01]: because we literally talked about that last

[00:47:18] [SPEAKER_01]: week in our and last week's episode about how

[00:47:20] [SPEAKER_01]: healing words can be and how

[00:47:22] [SPEAKER_01]: like for word people

[00:47:24] [SPEAKER_01]: that is such a form of therapy

[00:47:25] [SPEAKER_00]: mm-hmm I can

[00:47:27] [SPEAKER_00]: it is I do think there's something

[00:47:30] [SPEAKER_00]: sometimes maybe you can't even articulate

[00:47:32] [SPEAKER_00]: out loud that if

[00:47:34] [SPEAKER_00]: you write it down

[00:47:35] [SPEAKER_00]: and then you read it back and it's so funny

[00:47:37] [SPEAKER_00]: because I say sometimes there's Easter eggs

[00:47:40] [SPEAKER_00]: like in our real life they're like right

[00:47:41] [SPEAKER_00]: there or there's something right over to your

[00:47:43] [SPEAKER_00]: face but you're just not really paying

[00:47:45] [SPEAKER_00]: attention to it and you write a story and you go back

[00:47:47] [SPEAKER_00]: and read with the character Winfrey and you go oh

[00:47:49] [SPEAKER_00]: oh

[00:47:51] [SPEAKER_00]: like I'm working through that too

[00:47:53] [SPEAKER_00]: because I

[00:47:55] [SPEAKER_00]: no matter how much you try to

[00:47:57] [SPEAKER_00]: block those little pieces from falling into the

[00:47:59] [SPEAKER_00]: story I do think stories find

[00:48:01] [SPEAKER_00]: us for a reason I really do think

[00:48:03] [SPEAKER_00]: this story came into your head

[00:48:05] [SPEAKER_00]: because it's something to work through and I think

[00:48:07] [SPEAKER_00]: for me although I did lose my grandma

[00:48:09] [SPEAKER_00]: she is always with me

[00:48:11] [SPEAKER_00]: and always with me in the story

[00:48:13] [SPEAKER_00]: like I just think there's something so powerful

[00:48:15] [SPEAKER_00]: about the written word because you work through

[00:48:17] [SPEAKER_00]: so much and I do think it's just

[00:48:18] [SPEAKER_00]: really beautiful that

[00:48:20] [SPEAKER_00]: we can do that that our brains allow us

[00:48:23] [SPEAKER_00]: this ability and that's why

[00:48:24] [SPEAKER_00]: art in general is just so powerful

[00:48:27] [SPEAKER_00]: because you can see like when

[00:48:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I listen to music and I write I'm like this is

[00:48:31] [SPEAKER_00]: amazing like something

[00:48:33] [SPEAKER_00]: their emotions like I just I'm obsessed

[00:48:35] [SPEAKER_00]: with Lindsay Sterling I don't know if she's an

[00:48:37] [SPEAKER_04]: electric I

[00:48:39] [SPEAKER_00]: write so much to her music

[00:48:41] [SPEAKER_00]: because I'm like you're so powerful Lindsay like this is so cool

[00:48:44] [SPEAKER_01]: and then

[00:48:45] [SPEAKER_01]: those words transcend

[00:48:46] [SPEAKER_01]: like once you are dead

[00:48:49] [SPEAKER_01]: and gone your words can still be

[00:48:51] [SPEAKER_00]: here yes yes it's beautiful

[00:48:53] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah exactly I always

[00:48:55] [SPEAKER_00]: have a piece of my grandma because she was a storyteller

[00:48:57] [SPEAKER_00]: and I wrote this story

[00:48:59] [SPEAKER_00]: for us and it's like that's what's so beautiful about

[00:49:01] [SPEAKER_00]: art and why sometimes people

[00:49:02] [SPEAKER_00]: say well I'm just

[00:49:05] [SPEAKER_00]: creating art no you are creating something

[00:49:07] [SPEAKER_00]: so lasting that somebody else can find

[00:49:09] [SPEAKER_00]: themselves in like that stories

[00:49:11] [SPEAKER_00]: are that's so powerful so

[00:49:12] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah and it's so well

[00:49:14] [SPEAKER_03]: is like regardless of

[00:49:17] [SPEAKER_03]: what you intend for the

[00:49:19] [SPEAKER_03]: story people are going to take what they need

[00:49:21] [SPEAKER_03]: from it too so it's

[00:49:23] [SPEAKER_03]: it's healing all around

[00:49:25] [SPEAKER_03]: like you're working through your trauma but

[00:49:27] [SPEAKER_03]: somebody else is going to pick it up and see something

[00:49:29] [SPEAKER_03]: else of themself in it and be like oh

[00:49:31] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah okay

[00:49:33] [SPEAKER_00]: exactly and what they need

[00:49:35] [SPEAKER_00]: it's always that's the beauty of like

[00:49:37] [SPEAKER_00]: storytelling I think that's why YA is so

[00:49:39] [SPEAKER_00]: like what I love YA so much because

[00:49:41] [SPEAKER_00]: when I was a teenager it was like

[00:49:42] [SPEAKER_00]: you can work through so much you don't even realize

[00:49:45] [SPEAKER_00]: right

[00:49:47] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah um so

[00:49:48] [SPEAKER_01]: kind of a segue but in the same vein

[00:49:51] [SPEAKER_01]: this is your debut

[00:49:52] [SPEAKER_01]: but it's been met with so much excellent feedback

[00:49:55] [SPEAKER_01]: like you've got casual readers

[00:49:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Kirkus and

[00:49:58] [SPEAKER_01]: publishers weekly reviews

[00:50:00] [SPEAKER_01]: what's it feel like to get such like

[00:50:02] [SPEAKER_01]: insane feedback from your first

[00:50:04] [SPEAKER_00]: book it's sometimes I still

[00:50:06] [SPEAKER_00]: leaves me speechless

[00:50:08] [SPEAKER_00]: because I wrote the story

[00:50:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I hand wrote it originally

[00:50:12] [SPEAKER_00]: not all of it just the beginning

[00:50:14] [SPEAKER_00]: and I showed it to my mom and it was like I just

[00:50:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I had this dream and I don't know

[00:50:19] [SPEAKER_00]: if I'll do anything she's like you need to finish

[00:50:20] [SPEAKER_00]: this this is really good

[00:50:22] [SPEAKER_00]: and so I finished it and I wasn't

[00:50:25] [SPEAKER_00]: even sure I was going to publish

[00:50:26] [SPEAKER_00]: because I just I again

[00:50:28] [SPEAKER_00]: I was just I've always been

[00:50:30] [SPEAKER_00]: a lover of books and

[00:50:32] [SPEAKER_00]: reading and writing to work through things

[00:50:34] [SPEAKER_00]: but to actually publish

[00:50:36] [SPEAKER_00]: it was terrifying and then

[00:50:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I did it

[00:50:40] [SPEAKER_00]: and it was like wait Kirkus said what

[00:50:42] [SPEAKER_00]: publishers what

[00:50:44] [SPEAKER_00]: my friends and family aren't the only ones

[00:50:46] [SPEAKER_00]: bestseller what like

[00:50:48] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's still every

[00:50:50] [SPEAKER_00]: day surprising me

[00:50:52] [SPEAKER_00]: but I do think I'm really glad

[00:50:54] [SPEAKER_00]: that I took the leap because I was

[00:50:56] [SPEAKER_00]: when I decided to do this

[00:50:58] [SPEAKER_00]: again it was a really tough time in my life

[00:51:00] [SPEAKER_00]: when I decided I stepped away from a stable

[00:51:02] [SPEAKER_00]: job and I said you know

[00:51:03] [SPEAKER_00]: like my family is going through something

[00:51:06] [SPEAKER_00]: and I don't want to have any regrets

[00:51:08] [SPEAKER_00]: in life I want to do this

[00:51:10] [SPEAKER_00]: thing that is calling to me

[00:51:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and I wrote it

[00:51:14] [SPEAKER_00]: and then people are really excited about

[00:51:16] [SPEAKER_00]: it so it's been

[00:51:18] [SPEAKER_00]: it's been pretty amazing

[00:51:20] [SPEAKER_00]: but it still sometimes leaves

[00:51:22] [SPEAKER_00]: me speechless

[00:51:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean I don't blame you yeah

[00:51:26] [SPEAKER_01]: for sure it's incredible

[00:51:28] [SPEAKER_01]: thank you

[00:51:29] [SPEAKER_03]: can you talk about we're always really interested

[00:51:31] [SPEAKER_03]: in the actual writing process

[00:51:34] [SPEAKER_03]: like are you a plotter

[00:51:35] [SPEAKER_03]: are you a pancer what's your process

[00:51:37] [SPEAKER_00]: so the first book

[00:51:40] [SPEAKER_00]: was I like to say controlled chaos

[00:51:41] [SPEAKER_00]: because I

[00:51:44] [SPEAKER_00]: pantered all the way through that

[00:51:45] [SPEAKER_00]: and it was more discovery writing because I was really figuring out

[00:51:48] [SPEAKER_00]: the story

[00:51:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I definitely learned from the debut

[00:51:52] [SPEAKER_00]: to plot

[00:51:53] [SPEAKER_00]: that being said I'll plot

[00:51:55] [SPEAKER_00]: so I have the whole second book

[00:51:57] [SPEAKER_00]: plotted out pretty much all of the third

[00:51:59] [SPEAKER_00]: book plotted out I already know how the

[00:52:01] [SPEAKER_00]: third books going to end that scene

[00:52:03] [SPEAKER_00]: is in my head like that it came

[00:52:05] [SPEAKER_00]: to me and I was like I know how this is going to

[00:52:07] [SPEAKER_00]: end but I'm still

[00:52:09] [SPEAKER_00]: a discovery writer I think at heart

[00:52:11] [SPEAKER_00]: if my character which they often do

[00:52:13] [SPEAKER_00]: especially the villain

[00:52:14] [SPEAKER_00]: so how it feels like I'm not going to

[00:52:17] [SPEAKER_00]: do that so I'm like okay what do you

[00:52:19] [SPEAKER_00]: want to do instead and so I still give

[00:52:21] [SPEAKER_00]: myself the freedom to write my characters

[00:52:23] [SPEAKER_00]: let them be themselves because they are

[00:52:25] [SPEAKER_00]: these people on the page and they are going to do

[00:52:27] [SPEAKER_00]: what they want to but I do try to plot

[00:52:29] [SPEAKER_00]: now so it's kind of like a in between

[00:52:31] [SPEAKER_00]: the pancer and the plotter mentality

[00:52:33] [SPEAKER_00]: so trying

[00:52:35] [SPEAKER_00]: to control the chaos a little bit more

[00:52:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I love that though

[00:52:39] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah I don't know how people

[00:52:41] [SPEAKER_01]: like insanely plot

[00:52:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I just sometimes

[00:52:45] [SPEAKER_03]: you just start writing and then

[00:52:47] [SPEAKER_03]: and then they're like and then

[00:52:49] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't that why would I do

[00:52:51] [SPEAKER_03]: that that's right I would do this is why

[00:52:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I would do I'm a teenager I'm not

[00:52:55] [SPEAKER_00]: going to do that

[00:52:56] [SPEAKER_01]: my brain is not fully formed

[00:52:59] [SPEAKER_01]: yet the low connection

[00:53:01] [SPEAKER_00]: here like

[00:53:03] [SPEAKER_00]: decisions

[00:53:04] [SPEAKER_01]: so we've got to talk about this cover though

[00:53:07] [SPEAKER_01]: yes because this

[00:53:09] [SPEAKER_01]: is incredible yeah like

[00:53:11] [SPEAKER_01]: it's like a painting

[00:53:12] [SPEAKER_01]: that she's in a museum

[00:53:15] [SPEAKER_01]: so did you have a vision in mind

[00:53:17] [SPEAKER_01]: or did you give your artist like

[00:53:19] [SPEAKER_01]: creative freedom what was that process like

[00:53:21] [SPEAKER_00]: so Kim Dingwall is a

[00:53:23] [SPEAKER_00]: magical goddess so she

[00:53:25] [SPEAKER_00]: is who did the cover and

[00:53:27] [SPEAKER_00]: she the way she illustrates the way

[00:53:29] [SPEAKER_00]: she designs is very collaborative

[00:53:31] [SPEAKER_00]: and she was very patient with

[00:53:33] [SPEAKER_00]: me because she honestly I wish

[00:53:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I could take all the designs from the beginning

[00:53:37] [SPEAKER_00]: that she sent me and just like because it's just art because she

[00:53:40] [SPEAKER_00]: draws them

[00:53:41] [SPEAKER_00]: and gives you a concept and then

[00:53:43] [SPEAKER_00]: you kind of pick and you whittle down

[00:53:44] [SPEAKER_00]: and just the creation

[00:53:47] [SPEAKER_00]: of this was incredible because she read

[00:53:49] [SPEAKER_00]: the entire manuscript

[00:53:51] [SPEAKER_00]: read the entire manuscript and then

[00:53:53] [SPEAKER_00]: designed and we collaborated

[00:53:55] [SPEAKER_00]: and she's in Australia so we got

[00:53:57] [SPEAKER_00]: on a call multiple actually calls

[00:53:59] [SPEAKER_00]: together for the first cover and she is

[00:54:01] [SPEAKER_00]: just pretty much we pretty much

[00:54:02] [SPEAKER_00]: finalize the second cover and I was

[00:54:05] [SPEAKER_00]: like I cannot believe that this

[00:54:07] [SPEAKER_00]: is I can love this as much as the first

[00:54:09] [SPEAKER_00]: cover you took

[00:54:11] [SPEAKER_00]: what was in my head and you put

[00:54:13] [SPEAKER_00]: it into reality and then you did it

[00:54:15] [SPEAKER_00]: again like it's so good

[00:54:16] [SPEAKER_00]: it's so good she's incredible but yes

[00:54:19] [SPEAKER_00]: she really let me have

[00:54:20] [SPEAKER_00]: a lot of feedback and she was very

[00:54:23] [SPEAKER_00]: patient with me and I always say like she

[00:54:25] [SPEAKER_00]: is a goddess she is amazing

[00:54:27] [SPEAKER_00]: and I just don't know how

[00:54:29] [SPEAKER_03]: how it's so like

[00:54:31] [SPEAKER_03]: it gives it's so like ethereal

[00:54:33] [SPEAKER_03]: and yeah flowing

[00:54:35] [SPEAKER_03]: like there's movement to it even

[00:54:37] [SPEAKER_03]: though it's just an image yeah you feel

[00:54:39] [SPEAKER_01]: like if it's like if you're not looking

[00:54:41] [SPEAKER_01]: at it if it's in your peripheral it might

[00:54:42] [SPEAKER_00]: be moving it's pillar

[00:54:44] [SPEAKER_00]: like she so in the pillars here

[00:54:46] [SPEAKER_00]: she did like a mix of colors

[00:54:48] [SPEAKER_00]: like and she even asked so you

[00:54:50] [SPEAKER_00]: can kind of see behind her there's like a pink

[00:54:52] [SPEAKER_00]: she asked me what vibe do

[00:54:54] [SPEAKER_00]: you want for the colors and I'm like can you

[00:54:56] [SPEAKER_00]: explain that for my brain

[00:54:59] [SPEAKER_00]: which she earthy

[00:55:00] [SPEAKER_00]: and just like she really gets

[00:55:02] [SPEAKER_00]: into so when she gets there what's the

[00:55:04] [SPEAKER_00]: vibe and she wants to know

[00:55:06] [SPEAKER_00]: clothing and so it's like

[00:55:08] [SPEAKER_00]: it's it's incredible it is

[00:55:10] [SPEAKER_00]: it I anybody who can draw

[00:55:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and design that's why when people say

[00:55:14] [SPEAKER_00]: it's like we talked about earlier

[00:55:16] [SPEAKER_00]: cartoons I'm like that is an art

[00:55:18] [SPEAKER_00]: people yeah it

[00:55:20] [SPEAKER_00]: is incredible I wish I can

[00:55:22] [SPEAKER_00]: do stick figures that is about it

[00:55:24] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah my and my stick figures aren't

[00:55:27] [SPEAKER_03]: that good either so look I'm a

[00:55:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Canva queen

[00:55:30] [SPEAKER_01]: canva design something

[00:55:32] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah that's about it

[00:55:34] [SPEAKER_03]: that is my art

[00:55:36] [SPEAKER_03]: so I want to ask we you've talked

[00:55:38] [SPEAKER_03]: about it a few times book two

[00:55:40] [SPEAKER_03]: what can we expect

[00:55:42] [SPEAKER_03]: anything that you can talk

[00:55:44] [SPEAKER_03]: about there yes so I

[00:55:46] [SPEAKER_00]: can say that is definitely

[00:55:48] [SPEAKER_00]: going to be curious journey

[00:55:50] [SPEAKER_00]: into light and dark in the first book

[00:55:52] [SPEAKER_00]: she goes into essentially

[00:55:55] [SPEAKER_00]: the self-discovery this empowerment

[00:55:56] [SPEAKER_00]: finding her magic

[00:55:58] [SPEAKER_00]: and so then it's

[00:56:00] [SPEAKER_00]: this balance of life begins

[00:56:02] [SPEAKER_00]: to happen things start to

[00:56:04] [SPEAKER_00]: fall into place there is going to be a

[00:56:06] [SPEAKER_00]: prophecy in this book that she finds

[00:56:09] [SPEAKER_00]: out about

[00:56:10] [SPEAKER_00]: it's really the battle of light and dark

[00:56:12] [SPEAKER_00]: overall but also within ourselves

[00:56:14] [SPEAKER_00]: is really going to be explored in book two

[00:56:16] [SPEAKER_00]: so I'm very much excited about that

[00:56:18] [SPEAKER_00]: so I can say that

[00:56:20] [SPEAKER_00]: hopefully I'm thinking I don't have

[00:56:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to give an exact date

[00:56:24] [SPEAKER_00]: but it's going to be very early next year

[00:56:26] [SPEAKER_00]: is when book two will come out

[00:56:28] [SPEAKER_00]: so and I have the cards so I'm very excited

[00:56:30] [SPEAKER_00]: to show them like I have hold on

[00:56:32] [SPEAKER_00]: to this beautiful creation from Kim

[00:56:34] [SPEAKER_00]: but yeah so yeah

[00:56:36] [SPEAKER_00]: so a lot of things are in the works

[00:56:38] [SPEAKER_00]: but hopefully soon I'll be able to announce

[00:56:40] [SPEAKER_00]: the exact date this is so exciting

[00:56:42] [SPEAKER_03]: you I don't know if I've seen it

[00:56:44] [SPEAKER_03]: is there an announced title yet

[00:56:47] [SPEAKER_00]: I have not I

[00:56:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and that is so funny

[00:56:50] [SPEAKER_00]: like when we talk about like cover design

[00:56:52] [SPEAKER_00]: and also it's like you come up with this title

[00:56:54] [SPEAKER_00]: and you're like the last refuge I love that and it's like

[00:56:56] [SPEAKER_00]: hey you also have to do two more titles

[00:56:59] [SPEAKER_00]: like oh god

[00:57:00] [SPEAKER_00]: and I was like I nailed

[00:57:02] [SPEAKER_00]: they're both nailed down and I love them

[00:57:05] [SPEAKER_00]: so I'm also very excited

[00:57:06] [SPEAKER_00]: to get to reveal that

[00:57:08] [SPEAKER_00]: too but I have not revealed that

[00:57:10] [SPEAKER_00]: and also the tagline I'm super pumped

[00:57:12] [SPEAKER_00]: about all of it the cover

[00:57:14] [SPEAKER_00]: again Kim is a magician

[00:57:16] [SPEAKER_03]: so so exciting

[00:57:18] [SPEAKER_03]: well we're always open to

[00:57:20] [SPEAKER_03]: help in reveal things

[00:57:22] [SPEAKER_03]: so you got

[00:57:24] [SPEAKER_00]: in mind you will be the first year

[00:57:26] [SPEAKER_01]: hey

[00:57:28] [SPEAKER_01]: um okay I'll swap gears a little bit

[00:57:31] [SPEAKER_01]: we have a couple of questions that we always

[00:57:33] [SPEAKER_01]: ask I think you're probably prepared for

[00:57:35] [SPEAKER_01]: this one

[00:57:37] [SPEAKER_01]: so we have a segment that we

[00:57:39] [SPEAKER_01]: like to call fictional boyfriend of the week

[00:57:40] [SPEAKER_01]: where we pick our favorite character

[00:57:42] [SPEAKER_01]: we read this week or watched

[00:57:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Karen's had a fictional granny doesn't have to

[00:57:47] [SPEAKER_01]: be a boyfriend be a fictional bestie

[00:57:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I had a fictional bestie this week and

[00:57:51] [SPEAKER_01]: some fictional boyfriends

[00:57:53] [SPEAKER_01]: um so do you have

[00:57:54] [SPEAKER_01]: a fictional boyfriend a fictional bestie

[00:57:57] [SPEAKER_01]: someone that you're like that is my comfort character

[00:57:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I really enjoyed so

[00:58:01] [SPEAKER_00]: like when I've been writing I've been like away from

[00:58:03] [SPEAKER_00]: books so I get to right now read

[00:58:05] [SPEAKER_00]: a little bit and I've been behind the curve but I

[00:58:07] [SPEAKER_00]: just finished One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig

[00:58:10] [SPEAKER_00]: and I'm like

[00:58:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Raven or the nightmare who do I like better

[00:58:13] [SPEAKER_00]: because the night where you've been so much

[00:58:15] [SPEAKER_00]: it's like you love to hate the nightmare

[00:58:17] [SPEAKER_00]: and I think Raven was

[00:58:19] [SPEAKER_00]: pretty fantastic but else Beth is

[00:58:21] [SPEAKER_00]: also I'm like I always gravitate

[00:58:23] [SPEAKER_00]: towards the female main characters

[00:58:26] [SPEAKER_00]: because I would say my whole time

[00:58:27] [SPEAKER_00]: is like between

[00:58:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Scarlett from Lunar Chronicles

[00:58:31] [SPEAKER_00]: or Mannon from Throne of Glass

[00:58:34] [SPEAKER_00]: like I'm just like I was

[00:58:35] [SPEAKER_01]: explaining her because my husband is in Assassin's Blade

[00:58:38] [SPEAKER_01]: so he's done Throne of Glass

[00:58:39] [SPEAKER_01]: and Crown of the Night and I'm like you have not

[00:58:41] [SPEAKER_01]: met her yet she could step on me

[00:58:43] [SPEAKER_01]: yes

[00:58:44] [SPEAKER_00]: I would thank her. What I always say just take

[00:58:47] [SPEAKER_00]: me away on a Braxos let's go

[00:58:49] [SPEAKER_00]: yes yes

[00:58:50] [SPEAKER_00]: see wherever you would like to go

[00:58:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I will leave it all behind

[00:58:54] [SPEAKER_00]: just

[00:58:56] [SPEAKER_00]: the mastery because she's you know

[00:58:58] [SPEAKER_00]: by the way she treats animals

[00:59:00] [SPEAKER_00]: like the way she like that

[00:59:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like she's here but also

[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_00]: she's terrifying like how

[00:59:06] [SPEAKER_00]: much better can you get

[00:59:08] [SPEAKER_00]: so and I just love witch characters

[00:59:10] [SPEAKER_00]: so I fell in love with her

[00:59:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like what like book boyfriend

[00:59:13] [SPEAKER_00]: can you up to use

[00:59:16] [SPEAKER_00]: nobody no but I will say

[00:59:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I did also start watching I don't know if you guys

[00:59:20] [SPEAKER_00]: have watched interview with a

[00:59:22] [SPEAKER_00]: vampire

[00:59:24] [SPEAKER_00]: okay Anne Rice's interview with a

[00:59:26] [SPEAKER_00]: vampire they just and it's coming

[00:59:28] [SPEAKER_00]: to Netflix and I really love

[00:59:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Louie and it is it I will

[00:59:32] [SPEAKER_00]: say it's very violent

[00:59:35] [SPEAKER_00]: intense but what an incredible

[00:59:37] [SPEAKER_00]: show

[00:59:38] [SPEAKER_00]: what an incredible show

[00:59:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Louie stole my heart and my my it's funny

[00:59:42] [SPEAKER_00]: because one of my best friends is like no let's

[00:59:44] [SPEAKER_00]: all the way I'm like

[00:59:46] [SPEAKER_00]: really

[00:59:48] [SPEAKER_01]: do you want to help me bully Karen

[00:59:51] [SPEAKER_01]: real quick because she's never with her in a glass

[00:59:52] [SPEAKER_03]: it's on the list

[00:59:54] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah it needs to come bumped up the list

[00:59:57] [SPEAKER_03]: listen we have a

[00:59:58] [SPEAKER_03]: packed schedule Mandy

[01:00:00] [SPEAKER_03]: maybe in November

[01:00:03] [SPEAKER_03]: that'll be my birthday

[01:00:04] [SPEAKER_03]: present to me how about that

[01:00:06] [SPEAKER_00]: you can get cozy

[01:00:09] [SPEAKER_00]: drink hot chocolate

[01:00:10] [SPEAKER_00]: leaves and candles

[01:00:11] [SPEAKER_00]: it's trauma

[01:00:14] [SPEAKER_00]: cry a lot

[01:00:16] [SPEAKER_03]: cry a lot

[01:00:19] [SPEAKER_03]: at least I'll be productive

[01:00:21] [SPEAKER_03]: see what I did there

[01:00:22] [SPEAKER_03]: true

[01:00:25] [SPEAKER_03]: all right well

[01:00:26] [SPEAKER_03]: that is a weird

[01:00:28] [SPEAKER_03]: but also excellent segue into the next

[01:00:31] [SPEAKER_03]: question because we would like

[01:00:33] [SPEAKER_03]: to know we're obviously going to be recommending

[01:00:34] [SPEAKER_03]: the Ross refuge to everybody

[01:00:36] [SPEAKER_03]: but we would like to know

[01:00:38] [SPEAKER_03]: what are you reading what are you recommending

[01:00:40] [SPEAKER_00]: okay so I've got a couple

[01:00:42] [SPEAKER_00]: so I loved

[01:00:44] [SPEAKER_00]: I had never read Gothic fantasy until

[01:00:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Bella Donna and Fox

[01:00:48] [SPEAKER_00]: love and I'm just like very excited

[01:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Lee waiting for

[01:00:52] [SPEAKER_00]: come out so I'm really pumped at

[01:00:54] [SPEAKER_00]: grace is a beautiful writer

[01:00:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I also found out so this is more

[01:00:59] [SPEAKER_00]: of a writing one a writing

[01:01:00] [SPEAKER_00]: like if you have writers Marissa Myers

[01:01:02] [SPEAKER_00]: coming out with a book I think

[01:01:04] [SPEAKER_00]: it's going to be in January

[01:01:06] [SPEAKER_00]: the happy writer and so I'm really excited

[01:01:08] [SPEAKER_00]: just to get because she

[01:01:11] [SPEAKER_00]: and writing because you guys know being

[01:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: creating writing creating she just

[01:01:15] [SPEAKER_00]: like the happiness and how to avoid

[01:01:16] [SPEAKER_00]: burnout and just all these beautiful concepts

[01:01:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like because I came to the lunar chronicles

[01:01:21] [SPEAKER_00]: late so my Marissa Meyer

[01:01:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I came too late and I'm obsessed

[01:01:24] [SPEAKER_00]: with her work but also the fact that she's sharing

[01:01:27] [SPEAKER_00]: that with writers so that is one

[01:01:29] [SPEAKER_00]: writer wise that's a really good one

[01:01:31] [SPEAKER_00]: and then one that I just always love and I go back

[01:01:33] [SPEAKER_00]: to all the time is the boy

[01:01:35] [SPEAKER_00]: the mole the fox and the horse

[01:01:37] [SPEAKER_00]: by Charlie Mackenzie

[01:01:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I think is how he says it

[01:01:40] [SPEAKER_00]: and it's just a sweet illustrated book

[01:01:42] [SPEAKER_00]: like of all ages he says like 8 to

[01:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: 80 and just like when you're having a bad day

[01:01:47] [SPEAKER_00]: like I'll walk over to that book and just flip to a page

[01:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: and it's like it'll say things

[01:01:50] [SPEAKER_00]: like it's like the boy in the mole sitting on a tree

[01:01:52] [SPEAKER_00]: and it's like do you ever feel lost sometimes

[01:01:55] [SPEAKER_00]: and the mole is like yeah

[01:01:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I do but then I remember love brings

[01:01:59] [SPEAKER_00]: you home it just got these cute

[01:02:00] [SPEAKER_00]: oh my god! hurdles of

[01:02:02] [SPEAKER_00]: like I just it's such a giftable

[01:02:05] [SPEAKER_00]: book so and I always have to

[01:02:06] [SPEAKER_00]: my brain is always a little slow it's like how do they meet

[01:02:09] [SPEAKER_00]: meet each other it's the boy the mole

[01:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: the fox and the horse is how they

[01:02:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and the horse is how they meet each other in the book

[01:02:14] [SPEAKER_00]: that I always recommend

[01:02:16] [SPEAKER_00]: to I'm gonna have to get that for all of my

[01:02:18] [SPEAKER_01]: nibblings

[01:02:21] [SPEAKER_00]: my daughter would love that

[01:02:22] [SPEAKER_00]: you guys it's any time of transitional

[01:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: period in your life to a friend

[01:02:27] [SPEAKER_00]: like whether it's college or

[01:02:28] [SPEAKER_00]: grieving or anything as such good

[01:02:31] [SPEAKER_00]: advice like when you're like in those

[01:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: lows of writing and you're like I

[01:02:34] [SPEAKER_00]: you're feeling imposter syndrome hard

[01:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: like I'll walk to that book and be like oh yeah

[01:02:39] [SPEAKER_00]: thanks do it

[01:02:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Charlie you're the best

[01:02:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I love that okay well gotta go order

[01:02:45] [SPEAKER_03]: that now

[01:02:45] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah I'm gonna order a few copies they're gonna be like what happened

[01:02:48] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah

[01:02:49] [SPEAKER_03]: are you okay?

[01:02:52] [SPEAKER_03]: why do you need five copies

[01:02:54] [SPEAKER_03]: I told the children

[01:02:55] [SPEAKER_03]: all the children everybody needs this

[01:02:58] [SPEAKER_03]: everyone I love that so much

[01:03:00] [SPEAKER_03]: okay well this is the point in time

[01:03:03] [SPEAKER_03]: where I do have to give you some bad

[01:03:05] [SPEAKER_03]: news and it is that

[01:03:07] [SPEAKER_03]: now that you have been on the podcast

[01:03:09] [SPEAKER_03]: you're actually legally obligated

[01:03:11] [SPEAKER_03]: to come back for all future book releases

[01:03:14] [SPEAKER_03]: don't question the legalities

[01:03:15] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not gonna pretend to be sorry

[01:03:17] [SPEAKER_03]: it's definitely

[01:03:18] [SPEAKER_03]: legal and enforceable

[01:03:20] [SPEAKER_00]: this is the best worst advice

[01:03:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I've received in my life

[01:03:25] [SPEAKER_03]: definitely

[01:03:27] [SPEAKER_03]: just don't ask

[01:03:29] [SPEAKER_03]: questions it's totally

[01:03:30] [SPEAKER_01]: don't ask anybody else read the fine print

[01:03:33] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah it's like who wants the fine print

[01:03:35] [SPEAKER_03]: it was take our word for it

[01:03:37] [SPEAKER_03]: really fine print

[01:03:39] [SPEAKER_03]: maybe in white

[01:03:42] [SPEAKER_00]: what's the best worst news I've ever got

[01:03:44] [SPEAKER_00]: so I'd be happy to come back

[01:03:47] [SPEAKER_03]: oh my gosh this has been so much fun

[01:03:49] [SPEAKER_03]: everybody needs to go buy

[01:03:51] [SPEAKER_03]: everybody

[01:03:52] [SPEAKER_03]: it's out you can walk into the store

[01:03:55] [SPEAKER_03]: you can order it

[01:03:56] [SPEAKER_03]: pick up the last refuge

[01:03:58] [SPEAKER_03]: it's so good like I just

[01:04:00] [SPEAKER_03]: cover alone

[01:04:01] [SPEAKER_03]: for the cover alone

[01:04:03] [SPEAKER_03]: but the story inside as well

[01:04:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Hunger games meets Onward guys

[01:04:08] [SPEAKER_00]: honestly

[01:04:09] [SPEAKER_00]: that's the biggest compliment I'll have to tell my editor

[01:04:11] [SPEAKER_00]: she actually edited the hunger games

[01:04:13] [SPEAKER_00]: novels so like my dream

[01:04:15] [SPEAKER_00]: like and to get to hear that like it's just

[01:04:17] [SPEAKER_00]: like I need to tell her I'll be like Jennifer

[01:04:19] [SPEAKER_01]: it's someone on Goodread said it

[01:04:21] [SPEAKER_00]: and I was like that is so amazing

[01:04:24] [SPEAKER_00]: thank you

[01:04:25] [SPEAKER_00]: by seriously this has been so much fun

[01:04:27] [SPEAKER_00]: so I really appreciate it

[01:04:28] [SPEAKER_03]: thank you so much Christina

[01:04:29] [SPEAKER_03]: you like like I said you fit in perfectly

[01:04:33] [SPEAKER_03]: one of us

[01:04:34] [SPEAKER_00]: happy to be here anytime

[01:04:37] [SPEAKER_03]: alright we'll let you know
